Very good video with great tips for bikepacking. I also have a gravel bike I use everyday for my daily activities. In the 1980s e 1990s, I used to buy 10 speed bicyles and adapt them for daily use. Their frames allowed thicker tyres. I used to go bikepacking with friends to other towns around. Then, mountain bikes appeared and soon I adapted them for daily use too. One day, driving downtown a spotted what I thought was a road bike with thicker tyres and disk breaks. Some time after, I was passing by a bicycle shop and saw this gorgeous gravel bike. I bought it immediately. Thanks.

Talking about being overbiked. Was at the pump track and one of the dads rolled around on some flash full suspension trail bike. I saw him go slowly around a berm and front and rear suspension bottomed out he had it set so soft. I could tell it had never seen dirt and never will in his hands.

I went through the 90s thinking those mountain bikes were stupid. Now I ride them and think they're the pinnacle of commuter/comfort/all rounder bike that look super cool.

I have a 1991 GT Zaskar that I built back in 1991 with XT components. I believed some Pro's back then preferred the steel frame GT's.

My 2023 cinder cone is due for delivery. I’ve gone X-Large and can’t wait. I love the brand and if it dies then I’ll be very happy I got one before it sailed off into the sun set for good.

Nice bike. However, it's probably no "original" Klein anymore because Gary Klein sold his company in 1996 to Trek. So actually every bike sold from 1996 on is a Trek labeled as Klein. One can recognize the original Klein bikes by the type of lettering. I'm pretty sure that this bike here is from the early 2000s. Nice built though.

4 cross spoke lacing😊! It means that from the hub to the rim, every "pulling" spoke would cross 4 "pushing" spokes. As a young cyclist, i once read somewhere that this was by far 4 the best pattern, much better than the standard 3 cross. So it became like an obsession. And I managed to respoke all my bicycles: back wheel, front wheel, road race bike, track, even bicycles provided by my sponsor brand! Not sure it enhanced my performances, pretty sure no one noticed, but I kind of was proud of it. Thank you for reminding me of my competition years.

From a safety & ergonomics perspective, I would not have fitted drop bars. I sincerely hope this bike does not end up in the hands of a young, inexperienced cyclist.

i am using a early 2000's decathlon mountain bike with some tweaks. schwalbe marathon (thin tires that takes longer to worn out) i painted shell pink, ESI Grip silicon handles, headlamp with 2 rechargeable batteries, i got rid of the gear changes so has just the middle size, vintage japanese pedals wrapped with rubber from wheel, reversed v-brake from a monty from 1991, only brake on the back, a rubber tip for action the brake in the hand, white real leather small seat with valley for the prostate, shorter tube of the seat, thinnest lock chain ever, thick bmx chain, converters to inflate, push/pull led red light in the back, the mechanics changed me the axis, it has no suspensions, it is slow. the japanese shimano brake makes loud sound, maybe i'll change to hydraulic magura..i bought new entire pedal system from monty before they dissapeared. i love my bicycle. the frame sucks. most the parts are from enherited other bikes. the cable is purple. ahh and i made 700 lines in the rim for improved braking. and it has security (teeth) washers in the rear wheel for less slide of the screw, less loosen.

A much easier way to remove handles, is to drill out the handle.

I have that exact bike in the 22" frame and the same Dolomite paint scheme. It's the 1991 model. I bought it new in Washington, rode it hard for 30,000 plus miles over the next 30 years, and it's still as good as new. They are truly one of the best bikes ever built.

Great work. These older SID forks are so much lighter than the modern ones. Not quite as stiff but still plenty stiff for reasonable trail riding.

Great! The new fork is a standard one (1 inch external diameter) or an over (1 1/8)? And the carbon setapost diameter? My 1997 GT Arrowhead has a 26.8 seatpost, which I couldn't find in carbon.

I bought a new rigid mountain bike around 1990. Later my buddy wanted me to get a suspension fork, like he had. I said, "No, my elbows and knees are all the suspension I need." To which my buddy replied, "Well however much suspension you have with your elbows I have 2 inches more."

First bike I built was a GT and I tried to put the bottom bracket in backwards. Luckily they got it out and installed it for me. I built a headset tool out of some thread rod and boards and the rest was pretty easy except cutting the cables and hoses. Ended up buying a cutter for that stuff. I think it's been at least 25 years since I did a complete bike build now.

Awesome kona is lending out some loaner bikes to the league. I'm sure there will be some racers out there that will appreciate it. It's amazing what riding does to someone's mind and body. Hopefully your son can continue to use riding/racing to help him through his journey. Good luck in the new season coming up.

I like the off white cream part of the frame on this one. Old Kona's always looked like candy with the bursts of colour. Still got my 2000 Pahoehoe along with my Process 111. First "real" bike was a 2000 Hahanna.
