Trying this on a bashed up controller I got cheap that has joystick drift with a cheapo solder iron and sucker. Not only is hard to see the tiny holes but the sucker literally doesn’t suck. Probably messed up the board at 450 degrees trying to get the solder of

I believe you used a bit too much flux there. And a solder pump is more efficient than the copper braid, probably makes less fumes too.
@OKBUDDY2117 днів тому
Is flux needed when using the heat gun? Or can you just use the heat gun without flux

After de-soldering, wicking and cleaning up the flux I think I ruined the metal ring things on my pads. @0:52 yours look like nice and shiny. Mine are mostly gone. I've been trying to repair joysticks on my Dualsense for months. Am I screwed or is there a way I can still get the new joystick to connect to the board?
@geekinasabМісяць тому
Why would you care if it works, if it doesn't then welcome bro, broke my elite that way
@cal_a_wishusМісяць тому
@@geekinasab because I am trying to learn. I mean ultimately if it doesn't work its whatever but I am teaching myself how to do this and I am just asking a question.
@geekinasabМісяць тому
@cal_a_wishus you can't fix the ring if you scratched it too much, if you can still connect the pin to the metal you Ok, if there's no way it connects together you will need to buy new pcb for the controller and solder everything onto it, not that hard and you will learn soldering more.
@cal_a_wishusМісяць тому
@@geekinasab I appreciate the reply. will the solder still connect to the pins going through or is the metal ring on the hole necessary? I bought a flex pcb that lays on top of that location that has the metal rings still intact. it claims to re-calibrate the joystick with a screwdriver. Will laying that on top and soldering it down be enough to make the connection? here is what i was refering to ukposts.info/have/v-deo/h2mBfpifpoiKq4k.htmlsi=dtonOywE3SMKL8Bx&t=194

I have a family member and her house burnet down because of a led nightlight. Ive noticed when my led bulbs go bad they start flickering and start smelling burnt. Look at his bulb it's the same thing you can see his is burnt to. Are these bulbs really safe?

So I melted the battery connector on the board, melted the connector for the light bar and after soldering the new modules on, melted the rubber inside them with the heat gun. They wouldn't budge an inch haha. Oh well, lesson learnt.

Why soldering braid doesn't work for me? do I need to use flux first!
@Amanovich718 днів тому
Yes use low melt solder on the joint and dip the solder braid in flux.

Kapton tape
@alisardius15773 місяці тому
Please is that aluminum tape? Is any other tape under it? I saw some people to use transparent orange tape before using the aluminum, but i dont know what it is. I just broke my Dualsense controller because i didnt have flux and hotair pistol
@layne1828 днів тому
The tape people use is called kapton tape, heat resistant. The foil stuff is aluminium foil with a sticky back which helps spread the heat as opposed to the heat being concentrated in one place.

Heat transfer. If you add more then the heat transfers faster and you can remove bigger amounts easier with the solder sucker

Love your 2 vid on ps5 joysticks. I used a hot solder sucker ($18 on aliexp) and used it to remove just the pots. After replacing I realized the sticks were kinda "sticky" so decided to replace the whole joysticks. Tried the tool again and got most of the solder out of all but the 4 biggest pins. Ordered a heat gun and will try to fully remove the sticks tomorrow per the video's technique. 2 questions. What foil tape are you using and what gauze are you using to clean? I got some kapton and ducting foil.. figured kapton is safe adhesive for the board and the foil will go on top to reflect heat. But saw you put foil directly on the board and wondered if regular duct foil would leave a residue.
@jinsoku19114 місяці тому
Also.. some comments here and other vids say the pots are calibrated at the factory and replacing can cause issues. Found a mod board that lets you tweak the resistance of the pots so if I see an issue im going to try that to physically calibrate it. $20 in parts if i have to do that. Prob worth it since i have 5 controllers and the 2 most used developed drift. P.s. i played 1000 hrs of souls games on them with my kid this year so they do get use.
