Just had sleep paralysis last night. It’s always terrifying cause you remember every single detail while it’s happening. It only occurs when I’m under a great amount of stress and/or going through extreme anxiety. After watching a few videos and reading comments, it seems like I have to stop trying to force my body to awake & relax. I must admit, that’s going to be challenging because I always feel like somebody is chasing me or trying to kill me that’s why I want to snap out of it desperately. I’m thankful this doesn’t happen often. 🙏🏾

I have a cousin who suffered an episode of sleep paralysis while in a medical surgery. My cousin who I used to be friends with, suffered a lot of knee injuries throughout his life whilst playing various sports like football and hockey. He eventually got a major knee surgury done in the hospital. He was given some form of anesthesia, which later became futile after the surgery commenced. He was a very large man, both in weight and height and was very athletic; I reckon the anesthesia was just unable to accommodate his large frame. He woke up mid-surgery and felt EVERYTHING. He described it as the worst pain one could possibly imagine, and that it felt like it lasted for HOURS. He even mentioned that he cried throughout it but was stuck in his paralyzed body and could not move nor communicate. It was quite a traumatic experience, no doubt. Has anything like this ever happen to anyone else? Seriously… sleep paralysis ain’t no joke.
@robindeanna1323
@robindeanna1323 3 місяці тому
I don't think this is the same thing as sleep paralysis, I think this is just anesthesia failing to keep him under. This has unfortunately been known to happen to some people, anesthesiologists discuss this.

I used to suffer from sleep paralysis when I was a child and teen, but it went away. I might even have beaten it myself. It almost always happened when I tried taking a nap during the day, rarely at night and it was really spooky stuff until I learned about what sleep paralysis is as an adult. It would always start with a intense buzzing and humming sound, like static on a radio or an old TV and then I would feel how something scary, some form of entity, like a half transparent shadow would approach my bed and loom over me while I couldn't move. Reading Stephen King's "It" as a child helped me. In it he describes the "Ritual of Chudd" where you defeat a demon by challenging it to a duel of the mind and metaphorically biting into its tongue and not letting go till it begs for mercy. So when it happened again, I would become really aggressive and confrontational, mentally challenging the shadow to a fight and while I couldn't really bite it's tongue, I imagined turning into a powerful beast, usually a large crocodile for some reason and just rip the shadow to pieces in my mind. The last few times it happened I got outright giddy with anticipation. "So, you came back to get your ass kicked again?" I was thinking. Shortly after that it stopped for good. I'm not saying that I believe in supernatural stuff and I somehow defeated a demon or something, but I do think I kind of healed myself from the sleep paralysis affliction somehow though some form of self-hypnosis or by taking charge of my dreams. Now it kind of is my go-to without even thinking about it. Even in regular nightmares, I always turn into a crocodile or some sort of monster and turn it around on whatever is coming after me in the nightmare. I'm strangely aggressive and predatory in my dreams, always hunting down, fighting and mauling the scary stuff instead of being afraid of it. It is as if in my dreams the ability to fear was replaced with a single minded chain dog-like bloodlust and aggression.

I have a horrible anxiety disorder, and thus sleep paralysis is almost a part of my life. It happens every two weeks, maybe, and when it happens I already know what it is, so I simply remain calm, try not to move, and breath very slowly and lightly. That way I get to focus and slowly gain control over my muscles. That doesn't prevent me from getting up with my heartbeat at a thousand percent, of course, but it helps me go back to sleep soundly. Asking Jesus to forgive me of my sins and please protect me before I drift off usually helps. There is no one else to help you even when your loved ones are asleep next to you and your screams are muffled from the paralysis.

I've been having some very weird experiences lately and am now trying to figure out what is happening to my body during these situations. The first time following thing happened to me was a few weeks ago. I was napping in bed, feeling a little sick and woke up from sleeping. I felt incredibly tired and barely noticed waking up. I moved a little and closed my eyes again, but suddenly my body felt like it was shutting down with every new breath I was taking. I just felt how everything slowed down and my mind went like "you have to wake yourself/move or you might never move again" for some unknown reason. That's what I did with a little effort and everything went back to normal after that. I had forgotten about this incident until today, when I was again, napping, this time in school in a sitting position and with my arms and head on a table. I had already slept for about an hour and slowly woke up, still not moving much but my mind was clearing. Suddenly I felt my body shutting down again. With every breath, just like the first time, my head lowered onto the table until I felt truly paralized and started to panic internally. My awake mind forced myself to move somehow and again, everything went back to normal. This has happened twice now, idfk what it is://

I've had sleep paralysis a couple times before and I'd like to leave some tips to prevent anything too scary happening. These are personal things that I do and I have no idea if it works for everyone but just in case I'll post something here. -I've noticed that most of the times I've had sleep paralysis it's when I sleep on my back so I strictly sleep on my side. It's to the point where I actually can't sleep on my back anymore but I haven't had very many experiences w sleep paralysis since I've started doing it. This doesn't completely prevent it though. -When I wake up I always keep my eyes closed until I know I can move. This has probably saved me a few times from seeing some nasty hallucination. -If I wake up and I can't move, I keep my eyes closed no matter what. I've learned that opening my eyes and seeing something nasty is worse than being scared but not seeing anything. Then you just have to keep trying to move until you actually can. After that you should be good to go. I hope that this can help someone, I know it can be super scary believe me, I've seen some very crappy things that left me a bit on edge before. But I've adapted and if I can I think anyone who struggles with this can too.

I used to get sleep paralysis a lot--about every other day when I was in my late teens. The most important thing when it happens is to remain completely calm and relaxed. If you relax and don't try to move, it usually goes away very quickly. However, if you fight it and try to move, then the sleep paralysis lasts longer, and you're more likely to start getting the hallucinations.

Since then I make it a habit to only sleep on my side and it has never happened again.

I was really lucky that when I first experienced sleep paralysis I already knew quite some important things about it, from reading about it and because some family members also suffer from it. It was still very unpleasant because I was afraid of seeing horrible things (but luckily I had no visual hallucinations yet), but since I knew what was going on and that it's not dangerous helped me a lot. Now most episodes I find rather annoying than terrifying.

After looking into his eyes, I know what it's like looking at the It monsters dead lights. Every thought and feeling disappears from your mind, only two infinitely small points of the coldest light imaginable surrounded by the largest, darkest blackness imaginable, and the only sensation is fear, magnified 1000 times more than anything you have ever felt before. I just had a heart attack last week and today home and recovering I had my first experience after nearly 5 years. Prior to that I had SP consistently from 6 years old to about 35. Not always every night but just about every week and many weeks I would have several events. I have had it thousands of times in all different variations. I’m just hoping this one time was a fluke because of the trauma from the heart attack and the 2 surgeries that followed. I just can’t have this consistently all over again. I wept for 20 minutes straight after snapping out of it while feeling the stents in my still healing heart tingling. That old familiar feeling puts me in a state of fear like no other and that’s coming from someone who’s feared for their lives, including just last week when there were complications and I had to be rushed back into the emergency room while having a massive heart attack from the stent collapsing after the first surgery. It’s just not right that we as humans can experience SP. I’m 41 by the way and my heart attack was due to genetics. F’k this disorder.

I never used to have mental health issues until after Covid. It triggered a multitude of trauma that I didn’t know I hadn’t dealt with yet. I ended up getting help and turns out my mental issues are genetic, they were just triggered by an insane amount of stress. I just recently started having sleepy paralysis and I can not explain the amount of fear when I have an episode. I sometimes stay awake for days for the simple fact I’m terrified of having an episode. The one thing that has helped is not falling asleep on my back. The worst part is the not being able to breath. It literally feels like the oxygen is being sucked out of your lungs with every breathe you take. I guess I’m one of the rare ones that don’t have the hallucinations. Ive been having episodes of sleep paralysis recently. It was so scary for me, because when it first occurred to me, I did not know what sleep paralysis was, I was baffled more than anything, and then followed the feeling of dread. Even now when it happens, I do recognize it being sleep paralysis but I still feel like I can reach out to someone beside me and tell them to hold me upright or shake me or something, but I can't do that and that is so horrifying every time lmao. (btw one way to get out of the situation instead of just waiting it out is, try as hard as you can to shake your head, after a few seconds of hard struggle, it will work :D)

Also breathe heavier (not scared just heavy) so that your muscles will eventually start moving. If you mouth open then just keep breathing heavy. Ive been doing this for years and it works everytime. Just make sure that you get up and stay up for at least 10 minutes before going back to sleep.

@leefelixsegg2666
@leefelixsegg2666 3 роки тому
@@nala2814 yes because you are still breathing. If you are calm enough breathing becomes easier so make sure to calm yourself after realizing you are paralyzed. Also think happy things so your mind doesnt play tricks and scare you. If you mouth is closed by default there is still enough room for air to get out. Just breath heavy, calm but heavy. When your mouth is closed and you push air out that starts movements to your facial muscles therefore eventually waking you up. If mouth open then just do the breathing technique.

I experienced sleep paralysis first time, when I was about 10-11 years old, since then I am experiencing it 5-6 times a year, yes it is terrifying. I was told that if you put your hands on your chest while sleeping, most likely you will get it, I don't know how Factual it is, based on my experience I generally experience it 1) if I have encountered something terrible during day time, 2) watched horror movie and kept thinking about it 3) too many stressful events In a day 4) interrupted sleep during exams, assignments, traveling 5) sometimes without any reason it happens. How I overcome- I try to chant some holy mantra, and take deep breathes. I keep reminding myself that it is just a dream not reality to calm myself, as soon as I get conscious I feel relaxed. When I was kid I involuntarily shout my mother's name as soon as I get normal. Hope it would help someone, nothing to be scared of, just try to be calm and relaxed.

Now I dont get them as often and they're not that scary anymore. A couple tips- try to fall asleep before your extremely tired and just crash and when your in a really scared sleep paralysis episode, the more calm you are the faster you'll wake up. I used to just closed my eyes and reminded myself that I'm just having an episode and it will go away soon. I hope this helps anyone suffering from sleep paralysis.

The first time I had a paralysis episode (age 12) I didn’t know what paralysis was, I actually thought I had died but was stuck in “purgatory” (my dad had recently explained to me what purgatory was at the time) the fact that I can hear everything that was going on around me was so frightening. I kept hoping that somebody would come and wake me since I was the last one still in bed, but nobody did. I got out of it by just relaxing my mind and going back to sleep. When I woke up for the second time for real, I was so frustrated and upset that nobody knew what I was experiencing when I had explained to them the situation. After looking up the symptoms I was having I came to the conclusion that I had Sleep Paralysis. However when people were describing their experiences they mentioned being able to see where there are and sometimes see shadow or demons. In my experience I have never been able to open my eyes and see anything, just darkness like my eyes are closed. I am now 22 years old and still have episodes here and there, I actually just had one before going to UKposts to see if any new discovery’s have been made since my first time lmao 😂 but till this day never met anyone who has had the same experience as me when it comes to not having my eyes open or seeing shadow figures sucks bc I wish I had more ppl that relate 😪

I had my phone on with a movie on, and all i could do was just stare at it for like over 30 minutes while trying to move my body to call somebody for help. Whats more weird is that i realized mid way that i was experiencing the sleep paralysis and only after i gave up on getting up and calling for help, i was finally able to move and geab my phone. I never experienced the hallucinations either, but my eyes were open the whole time and i knew it was happening

@@hjjbhu2285 I'll try it out for sure. I definitely believe that if we put good energy out into the universe & surround ourselves with that positivity that it brings good into our lives. I also think bad energy can build up in one place & cause weird sh*t to happen.. Calling this phenomenon sleep paralysis is a way of trying to explain something that is unexplainable. There is no way that I'm half asleep when it happens to me. The first time, my friend woke me up with a phone call, crying because her pet just died. We talked for at least 15 minutes. All I did was lay back down & put my arm over my head after we hung up. Then I felt pressure on my body, the room was hazy, almost like spinning.. it's hard to explain.. but once it stopped spinning, there were two entities dressed in black, one was standing over me, the other was kneeling on the bed next to me. I couldn't see their faces cuz my arm was in the way. They stood there talking to each other. The one kneeling on my bed was a woman, the other was a man. I can't remember a word they said I was too freaked out & very confused. My brain was so foggy during those few minutes, I thought my phone-that was still in my hand- was a can of soup.. 🤷‍♀️ 🤨🤔 I tried to throw it & realized I couldn't move. Finally they went away, but ever since then, whatever it is comes at least once a month. When I tell other's about the stuff I've seen & heard over the years, every single person gets goosebumps & asks me to stop cuz they have a bad feeling. There's something that attached itself to me when my family moved years ago. I kept telling everyone the house was haunted. It wasn't till my grandparents came to stay that my family finally believed me. My grandma said that her & my nephew were being followed. We moved a month later. I've always wondered why it attached itself to me. I have a large family, but for some reason, part of the whatever was in that house clung onto me & has never left.

@@Elvamp my first experience was many years ago then I didn’t have any until a year ago now it’s happening once a week It’s so scary now because I saw a black figure lying next to me the last time and I started praying and thank god I woke up at times my body feels like it’s lifting from the bed I’ve told people and they think I’m crazy cos they have never heard of this sleep paralysis I try to explain and they say it’s a nightmare they should read about it I think I have it because I don’t sleep much and am over tired and I suffer from anxiety sometimes I thought that I had died and that was it making death and it scares the shit out of me

I’ve been experiencing this since my teens years. At first I was terrified. As this would be happening I often heard voices saying to kill me. Scared the crap out of me. As years went by I just learned to get used to it. I feel it coming before I fall asleep. And now when it happens I just tell myself here we go again and fight it until I can wake myself up. But just recently I’ve started having other dreams. I now have dreams where I know I’m asleep but I feel incomplete control of my thoughts and actions. That trips me out more. Anybody experience anything like this ?

YES. I was completely conscious and knew I was having SP, though I did have tactile hallucinations, I didn’t want to open my eyes to further induce my hallucinations. When you don’t open your eyes it’s really confusing and hard to tell what’s real, but it’s better to keep them closed bc visual triggers can make you see some terrifying shit.
