A normal differential in a sticky situation is worse than having no dif / locket dif because when you lose traction on a wheel it dose the opposite of what you want it spins the wheel with no traction thus causing the other wheel to not spin What you want is to have the wheel with traction to have power instead of just spinning the wheel with doesn’t grip an that not possible in a car with a normal differential You need a lsd differential A lsd can lock the wheels sending equal power to both wheels This I why truck and suv have a dif lock this prevents the wheel with no traction from just spinning Just imagine one of you wheels is on snow or just not touching the ground And the other wheel is on tarmac you want all the power going to the wheel that is on the tarmac You can do this by locking the dif in trucks installing a lsd dif or just welding it Hope this helps Here is a video explaining it in more detail ukposts.info/have/v-deo/aXJieoSqbJiY03k.htmlsi=PVwX0rUUReoqLTXk Go to 6 min to see an illustration of tarmac and snow/ice
