I watched this video and learned that using the Guide is my best option. The front page menu is crazy and difficult after having a perfectly slimmed down version for years. I will tell you that I want My Channels at the top, not 6-8 rows down. That's what I'd like to be able to edit. The only reason I keep Sling is because of the cost.

Sling's new UI looks nice, but I like UKposts TV's interface better because it has live motion thumbnails of each channel in the program grid.

After watching this video I tried streaming Sling at a lower bandwidth just for the heck of it. So I watched his video again and John’s beard disappeared. I think I’ll go back to the default setting. 😀😀😀😀. This video was great. As a veteran slinger, you guys brought out a lot of good pointers that I was totally unaware of. One question. You mentioned that if you put your sling account on pause for two months or more. That your DVR recordings will disappear. Does that apply to videos that you have locked.

Haha, that's awesome. My (John) mother-in-law would certainly love it if that were reality. :) Thanks for the feedback! That's an excellent question. We've not personally run into that, and from the research I've done it's not 100% clear - even on the Sling site. We're inclined to think it wouldn't save them. The only stated benefit they give, beyond the hours, is the ability to protect recordings from auto-deleting once you hit recording capacity.

Sling Blue Hollywood Extra should include MeTV. The cost of Sports Extra should be cut in half while still including FS2.

Good question. Yes, they state on their site that it's a beta to gain feedback on changes before they roll out. Given the lackluster, at best, feelings on the new UI it's safe to assume they're wanting to roll out something more people are going to like.

So i just answered my own question your looking at your computer at sling I am looking at my tv so here a great question why isn't the option in guide to choose grid or channel or the date an option on the TV sorry i am so frustrated , i could get used to the changes just not the pause darkening out the screen i use the pause button often

Good tips n tricks. Been a sling member for over a year now after cutting from expensive Frontier DVR boxes. Sad they don't have 1080p or 4k quality though as we just got our first 4k TV and 720p isn't so great on a large 4k display. ;(

Yea, that is one drawback to Sling. But, given they're not a premium service it's to be expected unfortunately.

A vast majority of cable tv channels are not broadcast at 1080p. UKposts tv does not and neither does any cable tv provider.

I tried Sling a couple of times in the past but it had glitches. Just signed up for it again to see if it had improved. So far so good. I have an LG qned85 tv and I tried the local stations tip and it brought them in to my surprise. No Air tv device required. Connected through my LG tv and using the tv's remote.

LGs are special, not all TVs will pass the signal to the sling tv app.

I have a Roku model 3810X on my TV in the "man cave." Is the 3810X compatible with Sling service?

From our research it appears that it is compatible. It looks as if you can update to the latest OS on it and that should make it work.

I've tried repeatedly to remove the duplicate channels from the Orange+Blue combined subscription but the selector does NOT display on Edge or Chrome browsers ... what's the trick? Steps? Diferent browser required?

Nice review. It helped a lot. I'm pretty sure I'm going to cut the cord with DISH. I'm paying $105/mo and only have a few channel favorites and none of them are local channels. Plus, they keep switching me to paperless billing every quarter without my permission. The 3rd time I told them I was going to quit if they did it again. Guess what... they did it again. Bye-bye, DISH!

Somehow I have Bloomberg TV stuck in my favorite channel list even though it's not marked as a favorite. Can't figure out to get rid of it. I also unchecked subtitles but they're still showing. Help?

Of course I see this too late! I wanted to give sling a test drive before cutting the dish (DirecTV). But the first thing I noticed was the picture quality was quite poor and it's not like I have a brand new 4K TV. I switched between DirecTV and Sling and the picture quality was noticeable. I tried a few different channels. Totally a bummer.

I think local stations come in better using the Sling TV app because the Air TV box that is needed to integrate those channels into the service has a stronger tuner which helps boost signal strength by up to 20 percent. You do however have to have a strong internet connection for the Air TV box to communicate with the Sling app which is how your locals are integrated into your Sling service.

No. The airtv antenna device artifically lowers the bitrate from an antenna. You will always get a better picture just plugging the antenna coax directly into your tv

You would want the Sling Blue package and purchase the Sports Extra add-on. That'd get you both channels, plus ~ ten other sports networks.

Make sure to access playbacks from the recording (dvr) page, not the home page, whether it’s currently recording or already recorded, should work.

When I try to fast forward through the commercials on my recorded news programs, it skips several minutes ahead. (Not seconds.) Can you tell me why? Is it the T.V., remote control or the Wi-Fi server or none of the above?

Well so it always depends. You said news so is that through an antenna and dvr via airtv device? If so it could that the air tv device is using wifi instead of ethernet, your device may also have a mechnical hard drive. Otherwise the DVR isnt perfect, it takes a significant amount of processing power. Sling makes it worse by under investiment, but youtube will have similar problems but not so bad. Its a drawback of "cloud" DVR instead of a local device that records content

I am VERY new to Sling (just subscribed to orange & blue). Tried to "watch" Sling TV and the first thing that "popped up" was an extremely annoying Fox News show, and I couldn't figure out how to escape from it. Can "My Favorites" feature allow you to effectively make a show "disappear" (I NEVER want to watch Fox News) from what I am initially faced with?

@@FrugalRules Right on. Thanks for the info. My folks just signed up for sling and this is my dad's main complaint. I'm not sure if it's an issue with Sling, or just the channel he was watching, or what. I have sling also, and haven't noticed this issue.

@@AlienFrequency Yea, we definitely get that. We've had Sling on and off for several years and have seen it really comes down to what you watch. Anything that's live - sports, new airing of a show, etc will largely be like what you'll experience on any other service. But, say you're watching other, non-live, stuff it can get bad. We see that when watching something like The Office on Comedy Central. Ads can come in and fairly random spots, seeing the same ad twice in an ad block, etc. That can get pretty annoying, in our opinion.

I like sling so far but the DVR sucks mostly fast forward. if you don't fast forward far enough it jumps back to where you started fast forwarding from. it's really annoying. I don't understand why they can't fix this.

sling is AFFORDABLE, yet been experiencing nothing but all types of issues with it, like Freeze Frame, Black outs, Repeats itself to Beginning of Show or Movie, gets ERROR Messages to Try Viewing Later, and others. plz Consider making a Video regarding solutions with these types of viewing problems. I've realized that SLING CASTING may be problematic using ANDRIOD CELLPHONE Generations types? I don't know if IPHONES experience any problems CASTING SLING to their TV's(anolog or Digital). Also SLING promised to feature Local Channels, the 1st of AUGUST 2022 and it turned out FALSE.

Sorry to hear about the hassles you're experiencing. We get they can be frustrating. Have you spoken with Sling support about any of the issues by chance? Also, are you meaning they were going to carry local channels? If so, we've heard nothing about them starting to carry them beyond what they already do in very limited markets.

Im getting rid of Sling because they like playing the advertisments at 40 times the volume and decibles of the program or movie your watching. Thats super annoyong having to mute or turn the volume down all the time. Any of the products that are being advertised get shut out by the consumer from this.

Those certainly can get annoying. We're currently with Sling and notice that happens at times, but other times the volume is lower. Interestingly, there's a law that cable companies can't do this. But, there's now supposedly a bill running through Congress to apply the same law to streaming services.

Actually it's not an accident or glitch. This is an advertising gimmick that has been going on for years. Obama put a stop to this when he was President, but Trump being Trump and hating everything Obama actually reversed the law. So now it's back to the same annoying extra loud volume tricks advertisers like.

Sling tv has way too many commercials... I tried to watch a sports extra program and got 10 commercials and a minute or 2 of my program, then more commercials. WTF. I am paying for commercials not. f= that... I tried to watch florida gators last weekend and I only have blue and orange no SEC or sports extra for more money... The week before it was Big 10 network, i did not see my Ohio State buckeyes. I might as well get youtubetv for less money. Sling sucks! plus i gotta sign in everytime..

Hello, it is May 2023 and I just started using SLING and AIRTV. It is pretty good but I'm finding a few challenges. #1 I think they took away the option talked about here for remove duplicate channel. Am I missing something? #2 The search feature is missing content. In this case I search on NCIS and (3) of them come up by NCIS HAWAII is missing. #3 How do I see the list of shows I have asked it to record? (This is different than the clicking on DVR and clicking on Scheduled". #4 If I search on a show and hover over the record button I see the option to record just new shows or new and reruns. But if I'm in the GUIDE and I see a show it looks like hitting record will ONLY record that single show. Why am I not offered the RECORD ALL SHOWS option there. This gets back to the missing guide issue. In the Guide I can see NCIS HAWAII but it doesn't come up in the search function. So I can't record all shows. I have a few other issues but I will stop there for now. Any help is appreciated. I'm trying hard to use this as a TIVO replacement but I'm having trouble getting there. I'm REALY Gone miss TIVO. :(

Am about ready to get rid of my “Smart” TV along with Sling...the new version puts Sling in nearly absolute control. I have a Vizio Smart TV. I get horizontal scrolling ads on the “Watch Now” panel, the largest at the top of the screen. Scroll down to the next row - smaller with more apps , the “Trending Now” panel, Scroll down once more to the, much smaller, “Apps and Input” row. Scroll over to and select the SLING app....18 seconds later Sling loads. I see “Top Show Pick” (currently Rick and Morty” and one “Tending Now” icon. Below them in second row “Recommended for You” On my home screen at the top I have CNN, MSNBC and “ Rick and Morty”. I DO NOT want “Rick and Morty” there. I want FOX. To get to FOX I have to scroll down 11 rows to get to Browse Categories - News. How do I add to and move “My Watchlist” to the top of my home screen?--------i suspect that i will NOT be able to. The Home Screens on Sling and Smart TV's have become advertising machines.......Probably streamers and apps PAY to put their app flashing and scrolling to get you to watch!!!
