I grew up watching my grandfather make furniture and carve beautiful details within. My Norwegian grandmother made traditional outfits for my dolls and even as a child I used to stare at the perfection of her work...This is why I love to wait in excitement to see what sublime restoration you will do next. Beautiful job on this restoration! The red was meant to be. You are right, the upholstering part is tough to pick up. I watched my Grams do this for well over 50 years of my life. I helped where she needed help. But i have never attempted it myself. But seeing her rip things apart and redo them gave me an appreciation for what she did for a living. She started her business when she was 19. She made all the buttons herself like you just did but on a much older maker lol. This is hard on your hands and wrists over time. She stopped in her 80's. Passed just shy of her 101st birthday. Thanks for sharing these jobs. I know your clients appreciate your work as you are very talented at all aspects of the job. God Bless

Wow....that was an amazing display of skill. Doing upholstery at that level is similar to an elite athlete or professional musician. Yes, anyone can do the basics, but to set up all the little details to make the upholstery come out so well takes a huge amount of experience and practice. What a beautiful restoration, I loved the red velvet, it really was the type of fabric that was probably common for those chairs in palaces, etc. You are, in my opinion, the absolute best on You Tube for restoration and upholstering. I love your additional comment about how long it took you to learn and perfect upholstering. Those little tidbits are so interesting!

This chair has such lovely lines. I was impressed with the boldness of the new fabric! The braid is very elegant. I think my favorite thing to watch you do is upholstering seats. Or caning them!

Is it normal to get emotional to see this finished work of art?? You killed me with adding the piece of original fabric for future craftsmen to find, an amazing little treasure and message from the past. What an absolutely stunning job you did and the choice of fabric was perfect for the era the chair came from and its ornate style. I don't say this often but I prefer it to the original. And just to say, the '80s never should have happened, not the best era for decor at all!! lol Back in the early 2000s I bought a home that was built in 1814 but tragically decorated in the '80s...OMG! Dusty Rose wall to wall and pink and purple floral wall paper everywhere! It was fun restoring that beast! I much prefer the gorgeous trim you chose over the usual piping. It just adds a little pop of glamour and originality. When I finally get the courage to re-do my tattered dining room chairs, I think I will chuck the piping and add a trim like this. This piece is worth its weight in gold after the incredible job you did!! My previous comment was posted before I saw the finished work.... truly blown away. And it really does look like Walnut btw, can't believe it's Birch, you did a fantastic job restoring the wood!! It was in rough shape and really not given the respect and care it deserved over the years! Kudos to you for bringing it back to it's original splendour and some! What a rockstar!

This glorious piece now deserves to be displayed in a glass case in an art museum!

Thank you for sharing your knowledge. You have a such a good eye for pieces that deserve the work you put into them. The wood always looks like you honoured the builder by bringing it to a suitable finish. It occurred to me the first time I saw this method, that it is completely compostable. It is work intensive, but would save our planet if we went back to using natural materials. This would also encourage us (due to cost) to not throw so much away. I really appreciate your posts. Much as I enjoy seeing you restore wood--and the birch here really does look like walnut--I enjoy your upholstering even more. You mentioned that you learned from the masters, and it shows. The chair ended up looking just like my grandmother's. It brought me back in time. I've never seen anyone do such an excellent job doing a 19th century chair restoration. AMAZING!

This is the most amazing restoration of a furniture piece that I have ever seen. The sewing, the layers and layers of padding, burlap and seaweed and then the buttons and the fabric and the staples and the trim. Amazing that there is anybody who still knows how to do this. You are remarkable.

This brought back a lot of memories for me. My mother used to make covered buttons like these, although with more primitive equipment. She had all those different curved and double-pointed upholstery needles, too. This was back in the 1950s - I had forgotten all about it until I saw this video. I have to say, I am more interested in the woodworking than the upholstery, but you are a master at all of it. You deserve a million subscribers!

Absolutely amazing job! The wood restoration is gorgeous! You brought it back to life and kept the original look. I loved watching the upholstery and re-springing of the chair, it was amazing. This chair will last a very long time because of your work. It looks a lot like a chair my grandmother had in her living room (I'm 71 - she passed away when I was 10). It was a very comfortable chair. I don't have a clue what someone would pay for this fabulous chair, but whatever you charge, it's definitely worth it!
