Many years ago I rolled my car multiple times on a mountain road but apparently escaped with nothing more than a few bruises and a sore neck. Some 12 years later I experienced a sudden sharp neck pain and went for an x-ray, and imagine my surprise when the doctor asked me "Did you know you've broken your neck?". He went on to explain it was an old injury, but the broken verterbra had developed some sharp spurs around the fracture line which must have touched a nerve somewhere. And the only possible cause must have been that crash. Anyway, the moral of the story is that if you experience neck pain after any impact - automotive or otherwise - get your neck checked, because it may be nothing, but it could equally be something that will come back to trouble you later. Best wishes for a speedy and complete recovery.

Good advice. An advice I got as kid already when I had a rather minor accident at a scout camp was to get it registered with the insurance company even if there was no claim at the time IF something would surface later in life.

Luckily for me I had a brother that was a nightmare, we were always wrestling together and a head lock was the preferred move for both of use. Then came the motorbike and old style heavy helmets, so if you want to strengthen your neck tour Europe on a Fireblade. Sorted.

Totally understand that you won´t do instruction laps anymore. It takes trust in strangers and once it is lost it is hard to regain. Glad to hear you came out okay out of these crashes and respect to Porsche for building such safe cars. Btw your instruction videos really helped to understand the Track and, even if its only in Sim racing, improved my laps significantly. Thanks for being open and honest as always!

Hey Misha, I drove with you in the polo and m2 on Saturday (august 7th) and I hope you did not feel uncomfortable driving with me. It was an absolutely amazing experience and I really appreciate the instruction you gave me. I also respect your decision to stop and have always admired your courage to instruct a complete stranger having no knowledge of their driving prowess. @kreiseltower
@kreiseltower 2 роки тому
@@WilliamLevesqueineX It took me weeks or even months to run decent laps even in Sim-Racing. The track is so huge, has so many turns. It is hard to memorize. I think I've virtually crashed thousands of times. Made every mistake you could make. Started in January and only now I can run decently timed laps without a certain crash or at least track run off in the best case scenario. I can only assume, that there are many people who are first at all overwhelmed with a car that they are not used to driving, and 2nd the track. If I would overcome my fear to drive a lap on the Nordschleife IRL, I'd prefer to take my own car (i30N) but at the same time I'm too afraid something might happen to it. But when I'm driving a car I'm not used to, even a company car for a boring trip on the Autobahn at decent pace, I don't feel really connected to it until I've driven it a couple of hours.

Hey mate, your guidance on a lap is amazing! I really appreciated having you as my instructor for my couple of laps in the M4 in March 2020. In my opinion too many people don't have great feel for a car and how it reacts and also think they need to do their laps "competitively"! I had years of Kart racing and track driving experience prior to my laps at the Nürburgring but I still understood that I am a novice, especially around this track, People need to enjoy their laps more (7/10ths) and not over-reach. Keep lapping and enjoy it!

I've spun my GT4 at 235 km/h (GPS) at Sochi with walls all around and came away with nothing but a bent rear toe link and a bunch of cosmetic bits to replace (talk about good fortune) after impacting a tecpro barrier having scrubbed off most of the speed 90 degrees sideways. Morale of that story was that at the very least a GT4 needs a proper alignment and aftermarket rear toe links to calm down the rear a bit. You wouldn't expect a car with a big wing on the back (and a tendency to understeer in slower corners) to snap sideways at 200+ after hitting a small bump off throttle (ESP / Please Save Me = ON) but it can and it will do so out of the box as you lose toe-in on the rebound stroke. Obviously: don't lift in the middle of a corner but sometimes a braking zone is in a corner. The Manthey setup includes adjustable rear links and much more toe-in and I'd expect it to be a lot friendlier to driver errors. The GTS should have been fine though so that was definitely 100% on the driver.

So good to see, that others know too, to grab the seatbelt when preparing for impact. A senior rally driver took me for ride when I was around 6 -first, he asked if my seatbelt was tight - I told him no, it's just right. Then he pulled the straps even more, and told me, it needs to be a bit tight. Then he saw me grab the rollcage to have something to hold onto, and showed me to grab the seatbelt. In my opinion, the best is at shoulder height. These two are the best safety advices that I've ever gotten.

Great job, getting in as an instructor is always a scary thing, especially when you only have a few minutes to ascertain the drivers expeience and ability. It’s tough for me here at Sebring, Homestead and Daytona, I can’t even begin to imagine how it would be on the world’s longest and most technically challenging racetrack. Crashes are things we all hope to avoid, but most of us know are only a matter of time. We need to continue to acknowledge and support our safety professionals and the safety tech out there that helps keep these incidents financial in nature vs worse and we need to continue to applaud people link Misha who post their mistakes online (I know Mischa wasn’t driving, but still he sets a good example by sharing ) so others can learn.

You and Robert do such a great job with explaining everything and driver coaching. If I ever come back to Germany and the Norschleife I would love to go on track with you. I have not been their since 2005 so the track is probably far different and my memory of the layout is probably off. I love Laguna Seca, Willow Springs, and Vegas Speedway. I have never driven a F1 track sadly and that's what I would love.

I completely understand you, get well soon. I've been in a serious car accident as well, and for me I had to use my willpower to start driving more again, especially on highways so I would get comfortable doing it. Now it's no problem anymore.

Thanks for sharing. I realise that this science is when you are on the edge of adhesion as opposed to slower speeds. Even depressing the clutch in older model cars can change the attitude of a car when done in the wrong place at the wrong time. Glad you're okay. Don't let this change the animal in you to explore the limits!!!!! Cheers mate.

Being FWD driver for almost whole life, I've learned how to counter understeer with liftoff oversteer, I can only imagine how bad it is in RWD

Get well soon. As a retired performance instructor for Porsche for many years, i was often asked if i wished we had “dual controls” like learner instructors have. I always said no as they only have a brake override, and I would need a throttle to prevent ‘lift off oversteer’. This comment was usually followed by an explanation of driving dynamics similar to yours. Great video, very informative and i support your decision to take a break from general instruction.

Man nurgburgring is the toughest track for someone that never track their cars before. Even in sim racing I don't make beginners jump into that track because its too long to remember and getting into a right flow on their first try. I'm glad your alive now man, be safe out there!

I totally understand your stand on driver instructor people these days. I've made a similar decision a few years back. I've found that these new cars are sooooo much faster and I don't want to be in the passenger seat when something may go wrong. I think the best option in driver instruction is the lead follow. It's the safest for both individuals. Cheers! 👍 👍 👍

An instructor I knew, also a great racing driver, died while instructing. You have to have a lot of faith in this new person to the track, and luck to meet a responsible driver. Rest in Peace Sean Edwards.

Track safety at that place was Abysmal for the speed of the circuit, as much as the driver was at fault, i think the track could have done a much better job at safety

I totaled a s2000 doing 127mph, flipped, rolled, slid etc… thankfully only walked away with seatbelt rash. But I had like a ptsd type of felling when driving for prolly about a year or two after the accident.. speeding, cornering etc, it just made me uncomfortable and anxious or nervous.. that was many years ago. But took a bit of time to get back to normal..understand your decision and support whatever it is you decide to do. Love the videos 🤜🏻🤛🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻

Thanks so much for your explanation, happened to me last week on a public road on wet. To this day I didn't understand it as I thought that FWD cars especially family van can't slide like this. Thankfully I somehow managed to just tap the guardrail and only scratch a plastic fender. To this day I thank for my experience I gained on the sim over 5 years of using it. The knowledge of the car behaviour in this situation was like a gift from heaven. Could have ended in a ditch with my passenger. In the end we laugh it off and got home safely, in the end that's all that matters. Stay safe out there guys.

As I mentioned on insta, glad you are ok, and thanks for doing this video! Very instructive. On a different note, I was trying to figure out the books on your shelf. I saw Skib barber’s going faster, which I have. Could also make out “how to drive”, then “24:16” and “2 jaguars prototypes”

I learned myself vehicle handeling with my first car. A Fiat Cinquecento 900cc. Small and cheap car with great handeling. Learned lift off oversteer, handbreak turning, controlling skids. The tires where gone in only 4000km. But made me learn how to react instinctively when a car reacts one way or another. And each 3 years I take a course with a driving school on a skidpad. Just to keep the basics on a good level. And the more km/miles you do with a car the more you will learn how it will react when things do not go as planned!

Thank you for your videos - they have provided me much entertainment and enjoyment. But, it was reflecting on your comments and have a perspective from the drivers seat. Many years ago I made an instructor "scared" and I carry his response with me to this day. Decades later i drive my "local" track with the respect of my peers (unfortunately, not for a few years now) and I know the blind apex, changes in tarmac and how to handle no brakes into a fast corner on the circuit and what to do when my slicks are down to the canvas (ie, stop) or going sideways (180 degrees) in the wet at 170km (not nice, and just seeing how wet it was). A few hundred laps - no, I don't drive the limit, but those concrete walls are unforgiving as other know. What you do, getting into a car with someone you don't know - that is scary. Take care.

Get well dude, also agree on the sim time. Driving in the sim I have learned so much that has transferred to reality and there's an odd position of knowing how a car will react and what to do in any situation without ever having actually experienced it in reality.

Great explanation, I remember even now some 25 years later when I was doing my advance driver training with BMW, I just remember these words from my instructor, don’t lift off don’t life off.. 3 words that have stayed with me!
