The 2002 NBA Slam Dunk Contest featured 4 competitors; Desmond Mason of the Seattle Sonics, Jason Richardson of the Golden State Warriors, Gerald Wallace of the Sacramento Kings, and Steve Francis of the Houston Rockets. The 2002 Dunk Competition featured a head to head format and the wheel of Dunk which selected the dunk that the competitor must complete. Going into the final dunk Jason Richardson needed a 45 to secure the victory and was able to win the competition with a reverse dunk off the bounce to become the 2002 NBA Slam Dunk Contest.
