The engine doesn't seem to be healthy anymore. 240km/h is way too slow, even when you consider that the old 4.2 engine almost never reached the claimed specs on the dyno. It should go at least 270-280 on the speedo.

I don´t know why that is but every time I look at this car I am just astonished. Although the C6 looks better and packs the V10 the C5 just hits me different.

The car seems ok for it's age and weight. Also this transmission is great for normal driving. So many irrelevant commenters who think that their 170hp Golf is better & faster, just ridiculous...

From what i see up to 200 it goes, after 200 it's hard... Anyway cool car!

I am jealous of the lane discipline that people have in Germany. In the USA, people will travel the same speed in all lanes, with no regard for passing or travel lanes.

This is my favorite generation of the S6/RS6 lineup. It has a timeless classic look, but what's more is that ability to convert them to 6-speed manuals. And the comfort... my god the comfort. It's a touch down from A8/S8, mostly because of the lack of double layer windows, but i prefer it to basically anything under €100k that came out in the last 15 years. The way it floats especially on A and B roads.. pure magic. Yes on tight mountain roads and on track it's like trying to wrestle a rhino, but that's not what this car is made for. Its purpose is fill it with luggage, take your S.O, hit the road, stick it in 6th, cruise effortlessly and in comfort at 200km/h, drive for 600km+ and arrive like you just had a nap. This particular example sadly isn't healthy engine-wise. it looks astonishing, yes, but unless that's some really steep climb, that engine is producing no more than 270Hp. My old 2.7T A6 had better performance when it was stock at 250hp. Especially in the 3rd gear pull from 120. The 4.2L 40valve V8 should do it in half the time it took here. If you play the video at double the speed, that's how a healthy 4.2L V8 should pull in 3rd. This is AT BEST 270HP.

This car has never been a rocket though. It's more about the abilities on wet and icy underground and have a smooth drive. Engine has most likely 310 horses and additional there is a slow automatic transmission and quattro which both consumes power. That is why any golf gti with 220hp has the same dynamic. still a lovely car with great v8 rumble and good qualities in terms of long-term durability.

Isn't the wind noise coming from the sunroof? And as many have commented, it seems like it has suspension issues, very obvious when you brake the first time and it shakes the car.

I have 2000 s6 c5 that has s4 manual transmission. Maybe it's the gearbox or it's still has speed limiter enabled. Because I Managed to reach 250km/h with some rpm left for more speed but I was scared to push it more.

Aerodynamic+ weight(very heavy)makes it slow after 200km(+on dyno 300-310hp). Normal behaviour for all of these i would say.

Its that damn gearbox! Can't make its mind up.....so many problems these gearboxes give.

The Original Stats are 340 HP and 420 NM Mine's running over 260 with slightly higher mileage
