After almost 170K miles in my 2012 Acura TL 3.5L I took it to the mechanic to get the timing belt replaced. Of course he replaced water pump and what ever kit comes with all that. He did a really good job. I have always kept up with maintenance and have always used synthetic oil and so far thanks to GOD no check engine or any lights on the dashboard. Honda does well with their brand.

Thanks for your video. A fellow Viet here. We just bought a used 2012 Acura TL 3.5L with 94K miles. I did some light maintenance on it (changed oil & filter, spark plugs) but the timing belt is beyond my skill level. Took it to an independent shop this morning to get the timing belt and water pump replaced. After watching your video, I think the mechanic definitely earned his money.

Preciate the video. There are a lot of engine components that need to be removed before you even get to the timing belt. Now I see why the labor costs a lot.

Do you know what tool I need for the timing belt tensioner? I see it’s an Allen key but not sure how this adapts to a socket wrench or the size it needs
@huunwheels7378
@huunwheels7378 7 місяців тому
If it the drive belt or serpentine belt tensioner, It’s a 6mm Allen wrench which you can get one with socket style. Hope that’s help AMP. The timing belt tensioner would be 2x 10mm bolts.

When I changed the timing belt on my 2011 MDX, the rear cam sprocket moved after barely touching it. I moved it back to where it was (guessing) and was really nervous when i cranked the engine after I was done. Car ran fine. Do you recommend zip tying the sprockets so they dont move while working on the car?

Thanks for the video. Always nice to brush up on a job before tackling it. I've done tons of services on various makes and models. Looks like a 3hr-4hr job in the driveway for this vehicle. When you pulled the crank bolt without a weighted socket on the 3/8 impact I was impressed. Did you preloosen it? Or did it just come loose that easily. 🤔 Either way. Great job on video. Straight to the point! Thanks again.

At 27:21 , any tips on getting the camshaft bolt out? Mine wont break loose and keeps rotating the camshaft counterclock wise, not sure if it would hurt the engine rotating it counterclockwise with the belt on.
@smazzy1878
@smazzy1878 Рік тому
Break the camshaft bolts loose while the timing belt is still on to hold them in place. Also, use the weighted crankshaft socket on an impact gun rated to 650+ lbs breakaway torque.
