FYI there are some FAQs in the vid description (e.g. tent, hammock, stick stove). This is the full 22-day trip and by far the longest vid we've ever posted. *It's broken up into 3 movie-length chapters or ~10-minute days in the playback bar/video description so you can break it up any way you like.* I know some of you prefer multi-part...I prefer to binge and get lost in the content and feel like I experienced it. (And episodic content generally performs worse than single long format on YT.) Anyway, hope you enjoy :) Nancy Scott's book on Nipigon (the one referenced in the vid) is linked here along with all my book recommendations: amzn.to/46i2Kyx

My 12 yo son: “Lost Lakes has a new video out, can we watch that?”. Result: unanimous family decision to spend the next three nights watching, learning, laughing, and being inspired! We have to say that you are BY FAR the VERY BEST at making videos of this nature. The quality, the steady filming, the editing is so WELL DONE. We have been watching the videos for some time now and have come to realize that you are GREAT at this. We always like your pairing up with Xander, but you are also quite fortunate to have your fiance taking these adventurous trips along with you. She seems quite capable at sharing these trips. We watched the ENTIRE video while having a few beers and had a great evening doing so. Thanks for posting this CLASSIC. We also hope you can get out again some time with your Dad. I’ve been yearning for a Lost Lakes video, and what you’ve given us is beyond compare. It may not be intentional but you’ve developed a distinctive brand in the world of wilderness adventure videos, characterized by quality, integrity, superb cinematography, extraordinary attention to details, humour, and a quietly powerful voice. Your music choices are perfect mood enhancers. Truly, this was equal to the best feature films, and I didn’t want it to end. I smiled, gasped in awe, and wept with joy and emotion during the caribou sequence. You and Erin are delightful together and I wish you a happy wedding and a wonder-filled life. I have lived and traveled from coast to coast for 55 years. I am so grateful to call Canada home. Access to wilderness is something that every Canadian should take advantage of and certainly not take for granted. My father is a 33 year Military Veteran and he taught us low impact survival and to respect our wild lands. Athletic outdoor adventures have always kept me grounded and sane. Your channel resonates with me in a profound way. Thank you for sharing your content! Its food for the soul...

After watching all 3h50m there are 3 things I'd like to say. 1, you two are a delightful couple, and absolutely badass adventurers. 2. I am grateful you shared this trip of a lifetime so I could enjoy lake Nipigon with you. It was on my bucket list for years, but surviving lung cancer has crossed out some things on the list for me. 3. When I am up that way craving sweets, I recommend the Serendipity Cafe in Rossport. After following your channel for years now, and seeing the steady and impressive growth in your film-making, cinematography and story telling abilities, I had a feeling that this video was going to be the culmination of that journey and establish your channel as one of the best wilderness channels out there. It has. I am so happy that your and Erin's hard work is finally being rewarded and your channel is exploding. Jon, you are such a modest and humble person- but know that the countless comments written here by people literally all over the world are 100% true, and you are fully deserving of them. Congrats to both of you on producing what truly is a Masterpiece. You have taken your craft to yet another level. Wishing you both many, many more years of doing what you love together... and hopefully, by continuing to share it with us, inspiring others to dare to explore this beautiful world that we often forget is out there, if we look. What a masterpiece. Side note - earlier this year I moved back to the northeast of the US near where I grew up, to a very forested area with tons of hiking and lakes. For the two years before, I was living in a major urban area in the south, and was deeply unhappy being in a congested city filled with sprawl. Your content back then was one of the only ways I dealt with the lack of nature I was used to being around, so want to thank you for all you do.

I woke up in the middle of the night, found your video and spent the rest of the night watching it as if in a dream, canoeing with you. What a magnificent lake journey beautifully filmed, with great music. As an avid backpacker who has hiked the Canadian Rockies, California’s Sierra mountains, and the Appalachian trail (in stages), your film inspires me to do more riparian explorations by canoe. You’re both admirable canoeists and the kind of adventurers I would enjoy as companions. Only this advice I offer: When you encounter an animal that poses no threat, and one that you want to observe, stay perfectly still. I was thrilled for you both, especially Erin, when you sighted the caribou. But it was approaching nonchalantly when Erin moved, or she might have had a closer and more rewarding encounter with it, possibly passing her close by. Thank you for sharing your adventure in such cinematic beauty.

Absolutely EPIC! Thank you Jon and Erin for taking us along this marathon adventure. It's always a joy to see the two of you in action but the real star of the show was wild and beautiful Lake Nipigon. Absolutely majestic!

A beautiful journey chronicled. And wow, what an impact on wildlife when fishing is tightly controlled. I counted more than 10 baby merganzers in that family. Here in Vancouver a mommy merganzers is lucky to raise 4/5.

Super sweet! But I have a pro tip for you that took me nearly a quarter century to figure out: Ditch you canoe paddles for nice, long, 2 pc. double bladed kayak paddles! It is a game changer in so many ways. Especially on long paddles and 17'+ expedition canoes. Way more paddles per pancake as we say. Way more torque, leverage and control. You don't always hold it in the middle...sometimes fully extended with one hand on the edge of the blade. Power through wind, maneuver tight turns on the river. And on the open water, increase your speed with little extra effort. And for those who do not want to break tradition....see you at camp tonight!
@larryk5541

whew! That was a marathon but one worth running to the end even if I had to break it up into shorter segments. Thank you, Jon and Erin, for a masterful telling of your trip around this magnificent lake. The exquisite scenery, the varied moods of the water and of the sky, and most of all, the wildlife you encountered, both in the air and on the ground, truly made this a first class adventure for the eyes, the mind, and the soul. I'm sure it has been said before but, even though I will never see this place with my own eyes, it is reassuring to know that it exists. Peace.

Jon (and Erin), Like most of your viewers we have been anxiously awaiting your new videos for awhile. But the wait has been worth it. That is the best video that you have produced that we have seen. The content, photography/videography, narration was meticulously done. We will certainly watch this one a few times again. Tom PS. In Chilliwack BC, where we live, there is a blue heron nature reserve. There is a large colony of blue herons that nest here yearly. There are dozens of nests high up in the trees all together for protection from the crows, ravens and bald eagles. It’s quite a site to see every April/May. The area is also protected from sightseers by fencing and a deep/wide ditch. However these nests are visible from a dike around the ditch.

Over 3 hours? Hardly seems like it. Really enjoyed every minute. It's just not possible to get amazing scenery and such good characters, nay unscripted characters, on any channel or network. Thank the heavens you guys are around. My city life becomes more unimpressive every day. Such great videography and pacing throughout. I will watch this many times. Nippogan is otherworldly in that monstrous storm. Unreal. Would love to experience something like that. I'm a bit of an adverse weather fan but realize the intense prep it must take for an epoch like that. Outstanding capture. Many many precious moments throughout with well chosen soundtracks, but the Caribou sighting was timeless. You guys brought us all something that we aren't seeing elsewhere at all. The scene with Erin will be a lifelong testament to your dedication to the beauty of the Canadian outdoors.

I grew up in the Whiteshell Provincial Park, 2 cabins to go to , playing chess most evenings, canoeing, kayaking, fishing for pike , pickerel, and bass, , water-skiing, back country camping , portages. The odd forest fire. Blueberries. leaches. storms, and great memories. Lake Nipigon is so close to Thunder Bay. Loved the Thunderstorms that you filmed. And all the little things, too. Most Excellent Trip , Thank-You both Jon and Erin. Your trip brought back so many memories for me.

I spend many nights falling asleep to UKposts playing on my bedroom desktop. I have autoplay on, and it usually brings me down wonderful rabbitholes of outdoor videos. Lost Lakes is my favourite of all of the channels I watch. I love your filming style, the pace of the video, the scenic shots and of course the corny banter! This video might be my fave on your channel, I just love waking up during the night and seeing that it's on. I bet autoplay has selected it over 40 times, and I have woken to different parts of it each time. I enjoyed every second of this amazing experience, but for me the highlight was you filming the woodland caribou on the beach and getting Erin in the shot. I was so happy for both of you for experiencing this, and want to thank you for sharing that incredible moment!!
