This video contains paid product placement for Garmin. Cycle computers & GPS devices offer a huge array of data, but which numbers are the most useful for mountain biking?
While your average mountain biker might be a little less concerned with the vast array of data that their roadie cousins are perhaps more attuned to, it doesn’t mean those who get their kicks from the dirt can’t benefit from the technology found in a GPS device.
Matt Rowe, founder and coach of Rowe and King, is here to give us the low-down on the top five numbers your Garmin GPS can give you, as well as why you should have them on your data screens.
Let us know how you setup your GPS computer in the comments!

Nice video. I find it funny how some some gps devices don't track some segments here in Colombia.

Garmin should really track jumps in commuter mode if mountain biking profile is toggled as an option because I'm always popping off speed bumps and down stairs and it'd make getting about on the bike way more fun, if only I could've added this comment when this video was new so they might of actually seen it

I'm in the long term phase of looking into a bike computer. Lots of general online stuff is pointing to a cheaper (but seemingly better received) Wahoo element roam than Garmin edge 830. But it seems like the Garmin may have (does it?) more MTB features. Whatever I get I care most about GPS mapping, but do MTB + road + gravel. So if the garmin rules for MTB then it's the winner. Although I care about generally improving and fitness, I'm not currently planning on ever doing any kind of strict training thing, so like strava-ing road routes and getting faster, but MTB wins over 101 different fitness metrics. I just cycle a lot for fun when I have time. So I'm lost at deciding on all-disciplines real-world usage for me. 🤷‍♂🤷‍♂

PS that screen brightness/vividness has been artificially enhanced because my 1030 plus is no way that good and I wish it were!

Because most people feel a Garmin is best suited for Road riders but that’s is a complete misconception.

Wahoo Roam is much better from the user experience point of view.

I always ask myself if these presenters will regret that they once were part of the bicycle QVC?

I use my crappy 4 year old iPhone for strava, if it gets broken it's no big deal as it's wayyy cheaper than my main phone and is tiny and light weight 👍

Grit, Flow, Heart Rate, Respiration Rate (which I find very useful for awareness and control heart rate), map, compass, cadence, distance, ascent, ride and total time. I mostly use one or two screens with first 5. Jump function is hard to review, for me it needs improvement, because their hard to locate and compare on the map. Example: #1 jump in ride… great!… but where was it? Answer: sit down, get a coffee cus it’s going to be a while until you find the answer.
