Because the Bible is considered to be the national cultural base for ethnic Jews. In Greece, the same attention is devoted to Homeric Epic, the national cultural treasure. Greeks and Jews may not believe in the gods of their epic literature, but they understand the importance of that cultural heritage. Israel has no civil marriages. If you want a civil marriage, you must leave Israel for a few days to do it in a foreign country.

It’s not just the holocaust - ethnicity, and tradition form identity. I’m a secular Jewish Israeli. I lived for 8 years in London. I went back to Israel and I live here - not because I don’t love the UK, I do, but because of something I cant quite my finger on. I joked at time that I got back because I wanted street signs in Hebrew. It’s also the Israeli Hebrew songs that I grew up on. Now I raise my son here, and I know I want him to grow up here. Which doesn’t change the fact that I will love the UK. And when I visited it with him I kept lecturing him about British history and why dad loves it… 🙂 Regardless of everything that happened, this is where I want us to live.

Being of Russian descent, their family had been driven out during the Tsarist pogroms before WW1. His family settled in England, but most settled in Poland and Germany. Very few survived. Being a Jew is different from being a Christian because 1) Jewish religious law, unlike Christianity, doesn't require someone to believe in God to be a Jew. It only requires someone have a Jewish mother or convert to Judaism, and 2) Jewish is also an ethnicity, which has no bearing on religious beliefs.

Jews have common history common culture common language and common religion, in other words, Jews are an ethnoreligious group (lookup ethnoreligious groups). Ps Note, secular does not equal atheist.

I don't believe much in the Bible but I would still call myself a cultural Christian because Christianity is part of Western identity, culture, traditions and history. and as a role model, Jesus is excellent. the perfect human being anyone with any moral compass and virtue could become. sure, I have questions about Jesus being a God but that could also be possible. why wouldn't God be able to take human form or posses the body of a human like Jesus? I think Jesus was a human vessel for God, hence why Jesus talks as both being a God and also the son of God. the trinity in Christianity hence makes sense for me. but this my own perspective. I don't actually know what a practicing Christian or a priest would say about that. about the trinity or Jesus being a human vessel of God. I would also even say that Jesus was more of an angel born to Virgin Mary. for religious Jews, of course Jesus is seen as only a political figure that was crucified by the Roman Empire. he isn't a messiah for them. for Christians he is a messiah.

You are right in the fact that you would have to be an idiot to not know that modern music comes from not modern music. I do think it is odd of you to claim to know so much, yet you use classical music as an option. African American music, jazz, and things like that played a bigger role in rock than classical music did. But you will always run into the problem of which came first and who influenced who. It's a game of opinions that doesn't hold up to the test of technology. Classical could be argued to be the beginning of it all since it was the first piece of music ever recorded.
