That's the cost of freedom, bub. You want a sleek kindle tablet, go right ahead. But that sucker is spying on you all day, and restricting your freedoms. iPads aren't as bad, but I never liked the iPad minis. The screen is too small for the user interface (which was designed for a 10" screen). I have a 10" iPad, but it feels unwieldy compared to a 7-8" tablet. I'm definitely gonna build one of these.

Why didn't you make the enclosure the same size as the screen bezel? It would give you more room for the bigger battery.

Nice project, I'm exploring how to use this concept to build an RTK GNSS rover for very accurate GPS position fixing, this would be great on the rover unit as most of the work would be completed in under an hour, the unit would be using a little more power for a comms link and to power the GNSS expansion board but a bigger case would allow for greater battery power, thanks!

I plan on making one using those exact same parts, except mine will be about 1/3 the thickness. I already ordered the RPi2-B, wifi and connectors. The screen will be ordered later. I plan on removing all the bulky parts and spread them out over a PCB. I'll post a video when it is done.

if the case's dimensions are extended so that the edges of the screen are not hanging over the case, will it still it still be able to clip into the display as long as the proper editing is done in Autodesk Fusion 360?

I'm completely new, not even new yet, to the Raspberry Pi world, but have a project in mind specifically for tour guides. basically, I want to build something that can act as a media player while also amping a mic for use in the aux line of 15-passenger vans. The computer in the vid looks like it can do it, but could it have an active line-in for a mic and a line out for both the mic and the media to go to the car aux port?

Nice, I only see one issue. Because of the soldering It will be very unpractical to switch the raspery pi when a new model comes out. I think the key feature to diy tablets is that you could switch parts easy.

How can you use the Powerboost 1000c to shutdown the Raspberry Pi when the battery is low ? I've read you can't connect the LBO output to a GPIO pin directly, because the voltage is larger than 3.3 volt. So how can we achieve a safe shutdown of the Raspberry Pi when the Powerboost detects a low battery ?

All those components are possible. Android is much more difficult, because when they make those parts, they only have software for Raspbian, not android. Besides, why create such a great machine only to run a crappy mobile OS and be disappointed at how slow the machine is? Might as well buy an old Galaxy Tab.

Something is wrong with the power -- you need to check the cables, charge controller, and battery. Could be the little battery isn't up for the job.

Just use a generic capacitive stylus like the ones that people people used on the iPad before the Apple Pencil.

Not sure of the total, but if you go to adafruit.com, look for the Raspberry Pi Foundation 7" touchscreen, the raspberry pi itself, and the charging circuit and battery. The touchscreen is about $80, the Pi itself is about $30-$40 (depending on which model you get), the charger is about $5, and the battery is about $10. SO, total of about $130, plus you need to 3d Print the case.

I bought the display from adafruit and I got the case coming from someone who has a 3d printer. But my question is, I don't have the battery or charging circuit. Will I still have access to the mini USB port to plug it in?

What's the function of that blue circuit board at 0:53 ? I guess it goes between battery and Rasp. I'm wondering, as size and weight is not critical, if I could use power banks that has usb outlets instead for both Rasp and display. Anyone knows ?

the blue circuit is basically a lipo power boost, a lipo battery outputs 3,7v, but the raspberry requires 5v. in addition a safe charging circuit has been build in to this board so you can use the device while charging. the battery can be replaced by a power bank, without the need of this circuit board, however depending on the type, you may not be able to charge and use at the same time.

the power boost ( blue cirquit board) has a pin (LB) that will change state if the power level is low. you could hook this up to the raspberry and code in a notification at low batery

You don't need to own a 3D printer. There are lots of companies who will print out the case and mail it to you for a fee. All you have to do is upload/send the design file to them. With this method you can design the 'perfect' case for your Pi project, and modify it however you choose. For example you could easily make the case a bit bigger to fit a battery with much higher capacity.

Remember, no matter what display or input the Raspberry PI has, it is still a computer that can handle any compatible OS. The only difference between my desktop PI and this tablet is the Input/Output.

The touchscreen can be used to control the computer fully. When you touch something to type, an on screen keyboard pops up.

Yes! It’s an computer with the chip like the ones inside your phone. And that screen is touch enabled and supports multi touch. However, it isn’t as powerful as an tablet nowadays, but still it runs smoothly.

Probably. Also the 4. The only thing to watch out for is to make sure the hole for the ports fits perfectly. If not, you'd have to make it bigger by editing the STL file in tinkercad.

Hi Adafruit Industries I am new and started using raspberry pi 3 with RASPBIAN JESSIE WITH PIXEL and install Raspberry Pi 7” Touchscreen Display. Screen Resolution 800 x 480 pixels I am facing a issue when i run Qt Creator 3.2.1 and click maximize icon, not able to get full screen layout of the application as few of part of the qt is partially hidden. i have followed the instruction of installation from this link below www.element14.com/community/doc ... en-display touch is working perfect and there is no black border from the screen. Android on the Raspberry Pi is currently very unstable and there's very few drivers available for it. I think you would need to tweak the configuration of it if you want it to work with the touchscreen.

+Patrick Gerlach It's definitely not the "normal" Windows 10 that you're probably thinking of. As was stated, it's a headless IoT release, which has a completely different set of applications. The media is mostly to blame here, though. Too many journalists were incorrectly reporting (mostly likely because they didn't understand what that all meant) that it was going to be able to run a full Windows 10 installation, which it can't.
