Hi guys. I know this is an old thread but I am sure that people are still watching this tutorial to assemble the kit. I have made several dozen of these kits for friends and to make a little money. One suggestion that will save you a lot of time is to throw the header pin strips into the trash instead of breaking off each pin and soldering it into the board. Just solder the LED leads into the board instead. Lots of time saved. Have fun.

I ordered this same kit. Unfortunately they chips did not come programmed. After contacting the seller to see if I was able to program the chips myself, I did not get a response until after the return date. Is there anyone who has run into this problem and found some solution to programming these yourself?

Is the micro-controller able to reprogrammed like an Arduino or is it a fixed program?

We might post a new tutorial in a few weeks on re-programming the LED cube. I've never tried it, so I don't know for sure how easy it is to program it. The cube comes with this microcontroller: STC12C5A60S2 and the PCB has 4 jumper pins reserved that you can solder to access GND, VCC, TX and RX. If you visit the product page, you can also find in the "Product details" a .zip folder with some software. I know it's been five months, but it might help someone else: Check your board. First of all check if you are holding the check-LEDs the right way. Try them the other way round just to be sure. Then check if is turned on, just toggle the switch on the board. Then check if there is power. Measure the Voltage on the pins of the power socket. If that all is well check if all the ICs are inserted the right way round. If they are check if all other components are in the right place. If they are check the solder joints, resolder those that look wrong. After every step re-check if the board works.
