I met Barry at Pizza Hut 1 mile from my childhood home in 1996. He was with his family. My 2 friends & I were in awe. We lived in the suburbs of Detroit & were well aware of this man's brilliance & character. We grew up watching him. We asked for his autograph. He declined. Initially it shocked us. He then proceeded to sit with us for 10 minutes & reveal that spending time talking to us was more meaningful than his name written on some paper. To this day, I remember it vividly. If it was an autograph, I wouldn't. This is a very special person long before these highlight reels on the field.

@@boogitybear2283 If I ever do, I absolutely will. To this day I still wear a Barry Sanders jersey from time to time - just doing yard work etc, not so much in public. It really has much more to do with the man/meeting him that day than the football genius. I was a hockey player & my guy was/is Steve Yzerman. I met him as well. & same thing. @tylerbob4853Рік тому
Jim Brown was the best. Barry played in a playoff game against Green Bay and he rushed for NEGATIVE yardage. That's right he gained ZERO. The greatest? Nope. Many others I would pick. Gale Sayers, Walter Payton,Earl Campbell,etc.& Many more.
@clifton12345Рік тому
@@tylerbob4853 I don’t include Jim Brown in these debates because it’s just different eras and it’s nonsense to compare the two. But I will say and compare this. You realize the Lions teams Barry Sanders played on were so horrendously awful you may as well put a highschool offensive line on the field…ever realize why he has the most negative yardage ? Which makes this all much more satisfying to say. Barry played for the Lions…Walter Payton played on one of the greatest teams ever assembled. I broke down Barry vs Walter. Barry vs Walter Barry played 37 less games Only had 1457 yards less then him Had 776 LESS carries Averaged 5.0 per carry vs Walter 4.4 Averaged 100 yards per game to Walter 88 Andddd had 45 less fumbles 37 less games and he woulda shattered the all time record had he not retired in the prime of his career. I don’t mean to be that guy man…but just don’t even bother trying to argue my point. There is nothing to argue.
@tylerbob4853Рік тому
@@clifton12345 hello, interesting but Walter Payton for most of his career played on terrible teams too. Gayle Sayers played on bad teams and as far as Jim Brown not being the best why don't you talk to Barry's dad about it. Different era or not some of those older players were great. Don't forget the rules changes to help the offense and water down the game.

He’s a Humble and Incredibly Talented Football Player who is an even better Human Being! Detroit was Lucky to have Barry on their Team for ten years! If Barry had decided to continue to play football, he would have every record in the book, PERIOD! Records didn’t mean much to Barry and he quit the NFL because he just wasn’t having that much fun anymore! Any GOAT, be it football, baseball, golf, basketball, hockey or any sport or game. The GOAT isn’t defined unless they possess the following: #1- work ethic #2- talent #3- the right team (support) #4- longevity We can imagine, predict and claim all we want. If “this had happened”, “if he was on this team”, “if only he wasn’t injured”. GOAT’s find themselves, put themselves or create the position to be the GOAT. Fact is, we don’t get to vote who’s the GOAT, stats cast the vote. If the vote was who was the most elusive, it would be Barry. Most speed, Bo. Most punishing, Jim or Earl. Fact is, Emmitt is the all time leading rusher today, he is the GOAT.
@gregwright69274 роки тому
@@waltershattenkirk3087 Most yards does not equal best ever (GOAT); it just means most yards. If I had 1 game to pick one running back in his prime (or any year when we are talking about Barry), I would pick Barryover anyone else. Period. That's what the greatest of all time means. To say Emmitt is the GOAT is like saying Frank Gore is a better running back then LaDainian Tomlinson when you can easily see, that was never the case. In case you want to rebuttal that, I want to remind you that Gore has 1 season of more than 1,250 yards in a season.
@waltershattenkirk30874 роки тому
Greg Wright I respectfully disagree. And if you go back and read the entirety of my post, you will see i consider the definition of GOAT to be highly subjective. You are defining GOAT as the most talented, in the case of Barry, I agree with you. He was a beast, unfortunately, after 10 years in the league, he said I’m done. Emmitt on the other hand, hitched his wagon to an up and coming winner. GOATS don’t hitch their wagon to loosing teams, if they do, they fall into the “what if/only if” category. Barry may be your favorite, he isn’t the GOAT. One more thing, my favorite NFL player, bar none, is Marino. The most talented passer the league has ever seen. Dan was the biggest fish in a small pond. Neither Dan or Barry fought to change their circumstance. For that reason, neither can be considered GOAT.
@thegorn683 роки тому
It's amazing to me why so many douche bags always feel like in order to talk about how great Sanders was they have to diminish Emmitt Smith's career accomplishments. Barry's highlights and stats speak for itself. Why do you have to disparage someone else in order to build up another?
