hromadske journalists talk with tankers of the 53rd separate mechanized brigade named after Prince Volodymyr Monomakh, when the military is repairing and refueling tanks in order to repulse Russian assaults on the southern flank of Avdiivka as early as tomorrow. Since October 10, since the Russians began their attack on the city, their work has increased, but it has become more difficult to maneuver because of enemy drones.
"During the day, they fly 30-40 "lancets", FPV drones. There are a lot of them. They are very, very disturbing to us. As our tankers say, artillery is not scary for us - FPV drones spoil our lives. If an artillery shell falls 5-10 meters away from a tank, it is not as scary as the noise of a drone," says the acting tank battalion sergeant Oleksandr.
Tanker Serhii, meanwhile, brings and shows the wing of the "Lancet", which recently landed near the tank. This is a place where tankers rest after completing tasks, that is, not the front line. But even here, while hromadske journalists are communicating with the military, explosions are heard twice. This shows how tense the Avdiivka direction remains.
"There is a serious attack on Avdiivka now," says another tank operator, Viacheslav. He had to work at close range, driving up close to enemy positions.
"Three days ago, a tank came at us. Now their tankers have become more elite. They used to go straight out, but now they make maneuvers, roll over, that is, they conduct two-way fire - both at infantry and at tanks. I have seen a lot of tanks advancing, but this time they did everything very competently," says Vyacheslav.
He compares the situation in Avdiivka with Bakhmut.
"No matter Mr. President says, it's very difficult," concludes the military man, but adds that no one is going to back down.
