Written and produced by Catherine Ayoo.
Catherine is a young psychologist from Kenya. Born in the western part of Kenya, she moved to Nairobi for education and work, and it’s become her home. She has always been passionate about mental health issues because she feels it’s not talked about enough in the world. Having studied psychology, her passion has grown bigger, and she hopes to have her own practice in future.
Catherine works with Ubani, a charity working with young girls and teenage mothers, supporting them with vocational skills to become financially independent, and she brings her expertise in talking about mental health with the girls.
“My story is of two girls who grew up in the slums, and despite the challenges they faced growing up, they’ve managed to rewrite their stories and follow their dreams. The main objective in telling this story is to give hope to people, especially girls and women living in informal settlements across the world, and to make a film that challenges and changes people’s perceptions.”
