The best way I've heard this put was by a room full of comedians talking when they get into arguments with random people and start ripping on them only for their wives try to join in but fail. They called it something along the lines of civilian comic. They were there dropping military grade bombs, back and forth with the person they are arguing with, only for a lack luster joke to be thrown in and turn the tide in the wrong direction
