Hi, I am 70 years old and have never heard of one of these but I sure am now going to buy one a great video Regards Roger

Mike, Thank you for that tip, I have used the Pace handpiece sets since my military days and love the equipment. This will save me a great deal of time. Great video.

This was a great video Mike thank you for the lesson.

Wow Mike, thx for sharing, never knew about that iron, very cool!

Many thanks Mike. Cheers!

Dear Mike, Thanks for showing some of the PACE hand-pieces and the Auxiliary heating technique on boards with ground plans. I can tell your are a long time Pace user and well trained in the art. Where did you learn of pace ? Military? One of my videos shows aux heat on a multilayer using the sx with an iron heating on the component side. Your video shows one of the best techniques to deal with mass in a pinch.

These SMD tweezer irons are cool! I have struggled with the through holes and have turned my iron full blast just to get the component out, of course not good for the part or bard as you stated. I am ordering vacuum desoldering gun this week, will checkout the tweezers as well.... Thanks Mike!

Anything to add supplemental heat to the other side helps a lot. I have just found the SMD tweezers work great.

Hi Mike! I hope that you are doing well. I still have a lot of challenges with electronics😊

And this is what I have to deal with even working on repairing a Night Fire Electronics kit. I cannot believe that Night Fire Electronics would get too advanced for me!

Mike what is the model of the Pace Station you use? I have a ST45 Sensa Temp. I love it. Pace rocks~!

When I worked for Radiall I used hot tweezers for soldering the center pin conductor onto coaxial bnc's and such. they have a small hole, and the solder goes into the hole ( about 1-2mm). if ANY solder flowed out of the hole, did not pass inspection. (these were gold, of course) i miss the vibration feeling when you have good conductivity. Thanks for the video Mike, very well done!

The resistance tweezers are handy. Great when removing and installing parts from terminal tie strips and tube sockets. The small tips are great for getting in tight spots. Pace should rename the Resistweeze handpiece the little hummer because they definitely hum when your using them.
@supyrow7 років тому
Yeah! gets hot FAST! I believe that might just be the best name for them I have ever heard. From now on... Little Hummer it is! Be Well!

Nice video as always Mike. Good tutorial!.Can you believe I still to this day do not own a pair of hot tweezers, that is something I really need to get one day. Wish they made a set that would plug into my Xtronic soldering station.

Check your email. Wink wink. :)

what kind of desoldering iron do you use's thank you

I love it.

Hello do you have any dak base units for parts? im look for a good chassis to install a export radio inside .thanks for your time
@leos98655 років тому
Thanks
@davecc00007 років тому
Great, until you come to radial electro caps + ground plane. Then what do you use?
@mikesradiorepair7 років тому
davecc0000 You can increase the tip temperature of the desoldering iron to compensate for the increased thermal drain. You can also just bend the capacitor over and pull the leads out of it. If it's being replaced it doesn't matter if it gets damaged.
@moogleii3 роки тому
What if I want to do the opposite? Solder something with a large ground plane. I can’t seem to get the solder to build a strong connection (it’s a connector so it will experience pull forces).
@pharohbender4 роки тому
what is that desolder iron brand.
@tookitogo3 роки тому
pharohbender Pace. (The current model is the SX-100.)

Hello all

Hi Mike, well I speak English not American, and we pronounce the "L" over here. Ahh well, every country is different. Still like your channel !!
@mikesradiorepair7 років тому
LOL, I know what you mean. I hear people from other countries pronouncing words and find myself thinking, what did he say??? Doesn't bother me though. Was stationed in other countries and deployed in many more while I was in the Army and I learned that as long as I could understand the point they were trying to make we were good.
@mikesradiorepair7 років тому
I just had to check Cambridge University website to see exactly what they had to say about the pronunciation of the word solder. Guess what, there are two ways, British English and American English. dictionary.cambridge.org/us/pronunciation/english/solder
@FooBar896 років тому
pace doesn't make the greatest tools anymore, nothing beats Metcal and JBC nowadays in terms of thermal performance, precision, power, tip diversity etc
@mikesradiorepair6 років тому
ThinkLearnSolve You haven't tried their newer systems then. Their newest systems are definitely at the top of the pile. What I'm using here has got to be 15 to 20 years old. I have one unit that is over 30 years old and is still running strong. There are three things I love about Pace. Made in the USA, durability/dependability and support decades after a product goes out of production. I can still get parts for units made in the 1970's. Try that with Metcal or JBC.
@FooBar896 років тому
no, I haven't, I just don't think anyone can do better than JBC or Metcal, if anything they might be just as good, but I don't particularly find the current Pace station lineup impressive
@mikesradiorepair6 років тому
ThinkLearnSolve Let's see if they are still working in 40 years and still have full parts support. Pace does. Shoot I have a 1970's unit at one bench and it's still running strong and can still get consumables for it. I would kill for one of their most recent automated BGA stations.
@harbselectronicslab35514 роки тому
Yeah I agree ThinkLearnSolve..........I recently upgraded my whole lab and mobile service vehicle to JBC, and although the price was eye watering the process of complex soldering has been made absolutely easy as now..........Its amazing how different it makes my day now......Having said that, the Pace stuff I replaced did serve us well for many years, but the JBC stuff is so up with technology I am glad I made the move.
@alandoherty82797 років тому
Great video. But the American pronunciation of "solder" as sodder without the "L", bugs the hell out of me. 😢
@mikesradiorepair7 років тому
Actually, that's how it is pronounced. From the dictionary the pronunciation is " sädər " , note the L is silent.
