Maybe somebody has already asked these same questions and you might have already previously answered them. If so, Please forgive me for asking them again as I'm unaware that these questions might have already been asked, and that the answers might have already been provided if that has been the case. So I'm asking them myself at this time. I've seen that glue in CB radios and other electronic component circuits. It looks and feels more like a soft wax type substance than a glue. But either way If that glue is causing so much of a destructive internal component problem then what is (or was), it's original purpose. Why is it still being installed into the radios and also if it causes so much of a corrosive destructive problem with internal components then why does the manufacturer keep installing it into the radios at the factory? Also if the manufacturer installed it in the circuitry and they know it causes problems why can't they have a process during manufacturing that is able to almost completely remove it after the circuit board has been manufactured and prior to the radio being packed and shipped, thereby eliminating the substance's corrosive destruction process. Or at least come up with and use a different non-destructive and non-corrosive substance. It sure would make your job easier as well as being less hair pulling. Just asking out of curiosity. Anyway. Thanks for a great informative video, and thanks for sharing it with your audience.

Why unlock the clarifier...?
@mikesradiorepair
@mikesradiorepair 2 дні тому
That's what some people want. From the factory the radio is basically in split mode. The TX frequency is "locked" and the only thing the clarifier does is adjust the RX frequency. "Unlocking" the clarifier makes the RX and TX track with the clarifier. Locked clarifiers are fine if there are only two people talking but it's a nightmare with 3 or more people where their TX frequency could be all over the place.

What's the deal with the distorted receive audio ? Maybe preaching to the choir, but my new radio is horrible on strong signals ! Backing down the RF gain, does little ! Simply no excuse for that, IMHO !

Can't say I have seen one with distorted receive audio. Are you sure it's not the received signal that's distorted. I can't even stand to listen to the CB band anymore because there are so many hacked up over modulated radios on air these days.

@@mikesradiorepair This is used for Amateur Radio only, and never opened up for C.B. ! I'm not sure if it's an issue with the AGC, or what ? Weaker receive signals sound clear, as expected, but louder, stronger signals per the S - Meter sound as if a filter has hit the wall ? It is almost like taking a finger, and pushing on the voice coil on a speaker ! Very pinched sounding ! I think I have read comments elsewhere, of people complaining of the issue . Also, do you know of a mod that can tie the Clarifier to the transmit ? I'm kind of surprised that President dropped the ball, a bit with this ! I have an Anytone quad 5 Plus, that offers 3 settings for using the Clarifier ! While I'm whining .....I am not a fan of how these Radios receivers blank as you are turning across the Bands ! Very frustrating while mobile ! I've been around long enough to know, older rigs, like the Radio Shack HTX - 10 as an example, allow you to change frequencies and slide from one conversation to another, without the blanking . Making it possible to keep your eyes on the road, more than the radio ! If you're not familiar with what I'm describing, with the Lincoln, once you depress the Up or Down buttons, the receiver changes frequency very quickly, and doing so, blanks the receiver flying past signals, unless you press and release, over and over the Up / Down buttons ! Again, very frustrating, at least for my opinion ! Thanks for your time !

Ive been told a 4 pin president mic has the same wireing pattern, the mic is a turner off a washington (858 board). No modulation ssb either. I can hear stuff from the speaker. Can you get repalcement boards from like pcb way or something that would have a board of better quality?

My Lincoln radio should be delivered today but I’m not home! Got the Digimic with it and some President antennas. I’ll drop a resistor in it and let it rip. Maybe my first amp added later? Also got the new President George FCC on order and plan for that to be my new main work radio. Also trying out the President Randy because the 75-785’s are(for me), disposable units and I want a long term relationship with my handheld unit. 😂

Hi there Mike's Radio Repair. I am new to this and am just making a small comment. I had attended school and learned about technology a little. While in school I borrowed a book from the school library with the title "Communications Equipment Repair". I read the whole book whish is about 100 pages or so. I still did not have the confidence to work on electronics gear. After watching the above video I fell more confident to make my own repairs to commuications equipment and doing so more cost effectively than I would have before watching "Basic repairs even you can do. Use your built in tools, your senses." Thank you to Mike's Radio Repair for making this video and posting it to UKposts and making it available to people like me.😀👍

What, if anything, can be done to stop the receeiver from blanking out as you change frequency ? This is horrible for mobile work ! Too, the frequency readout is very small, but Channel numbers are large, with no way to switch back and forth ! Is there a mode to lock the Clarifier to both Xmit and Rcv ? Seems aimed at C.B. channelization more than Amateur Radio ?
@mikesradiorepair
@mikesradiorepair 26 днів тому
It is. It's just a channelized amateur radio that is easily modified for CB use. What I call "Black Box" amateur radios are all like that. If you want a true VFO you will have to buy a real amateur HF radio.
@sleeve8651
@sleeve8651 25 днів тому
@@mikesradiorepair Well I bring this up because the old Radio Shack HTX - 10 Ten meter radios, never did that ! You can change Frequencies by simply depressing the Up or Down mic buttons, and never miss a station ! Seems like they have gone backwards ? Another thing I was disappointed in, there is no way to toggle between the Channel indicator and the frequency readout, making the frequency readout larger ! Especially important while mobile, as it is a distraction ! Then not being able to tie the clarifier to the transmitter, thru the menu is something you would think would be standard ! As with the Anytone 5555 N 2, they are much more flexible with that, giving you three options ! Getting back to the, President Lincoln 2 Plus, what can be done with the serious receive over load on strong signals ? Reducing the RF gain does little to help ?

@@sleeve8651 That's why I have a Yaesu FTDX-10, Tarheel 100A-HP screwdriver antenna and Acom 500S amplifier in my service van. A real amateur radio with great display and performance. The screwdriver antenna gives me coverage from 80M up to 10M. Got done with a service call at a mountain top repeater site last night and spent a half hour talking to a friend in Australia on 80M. Was able to hold him 3/4 of the way down the mountain until I finally lost him.

I have a RC1 2990dx that had high swr's when it rains 🌧 and when u switched to another antenna it didn't then goes away after it dries out. My other radio swr's didn't go up at all. Why is that.
@mikesradiorepair
@mikesradiorepair 28 днів тому
Either your antenna or coax probably have water in them. If the coax connector was not properly waterproofed and water has gotten into it throw it out and install a new one. The water will remain in the cable and corrode the conductors. I have seen water travel over 80 feet through the braid on a coax cable that the user failed to waterproof the connector on.
