In 2012, went down the Denali Hwy on a Caribou hunt w/ friends. Went to mile 88, one area the Caribou migrate through. When we got there, I spotted a grizzly on a kill he had covered. They got the grizzly. According to Fish & Game,then, if you killed a 3 yr old grizzly, you saved 20 Caribou & 20 Moose in his normal life span. You are so right that cameras an never catch the awe and majesty of this amazing place called Alaska. That's what made me move here from VA!😊❤😍

I absolutely LOVED the Denali Hi Way. My most favorite place on Earth in the 16 years I lived there. I have never seen anything so impressive, and now I'm in north western MT, and that still holds true.

What a nice little adventure. As a lifelong fan of motorcycling (who also took a break of sorts when becoming a parent), this was especially engaging. I'm glad you went on the trip. What you said about "may be next time, may be never" is true. There are things I took for granted earlier in life, thinking I'd have the opportunity to do them later, but that's not always the case. Thanks for sharing. Be safe and have fun!

OMG! This video brought back so many memories! In 2010, 3 of us started in Glen Allen , self supported, on our touring bicycles and rode to the Denali Hwy, rode the Hwy, and went on to Denali. We then rode the 95 miles to the the back of Denali National Park and camped at Wonder Lake. It was one of the most incredible 2 weeks of my life! The scenery! The wildlife! Like you said, you can’t do it justice with a camera! Absolutely awesome! Thanks for the video!
@cindykaye315210 місяців тому
Love this! Such beautiful scenery! Please don't take this wrong, but I had to chuckle when you said you forgot the cover for the Go-pro because it reminded me of Mick forgetting his sleeping bag on his camping adventure last week! Hi Dave, I make the trip to the Denali Highway every year. I usually take 3-4 days across from the Cantwell side, I take my time to camp and fish. Then, I go the Glenn Highway to Wasilla and back home to Willow. The lodge in Paxton was called the Paxon Lodge. I worked there as the dishwasher many years ago and the family that owned it were a crazy bunch, always arguing, lol. It was nice to see you making this trip, it is one of the no.1 areas to go. Great hunting as well. Thanks for sharing.

Loved the trip back through memory lane around Delta Junction Dave, I'm currently running a Kawasaki KLR 650 myself. As I sit here at my desk watching your video while making a 6figure income working for the railroad and pullinga 24hr shift, I can't help but feel envious jealous sad and happy all at the same time. Some days I wish I could just chuck it all and just go out wander around and be totally free but then I think, man I've built 1 hell of a retirement for myself and now I'm in a position where I'm only working 15days a month so I've set myself up with a lot more me time to chase my dreams although it may only be 9days at a time, it took me awhileto get to this place in my life. Keep living your dreams and may God continue to bless you and Brooke with good health and many more years of adventures. Hope to run into you both sometime whether it be in Alaska or back in Michigan, would love to share a campfire with you both.

Durning WWII my dad was stationed in California. I wasn’t born yet but my two sisters and a brother were. My dad had an Indian motorcycle and when he had time off the FIVE of them would go camping. My brother (about 6) rode in front of my dad, the two girls rode between my dad and my mom. Can you imagine, they would go for one night no more than two. Just seeing California sights. My dad often would say he wished he’d never sold that bike.

I think one of the most dangerous things about motorcycles is having all the other cars on the road. How many times do you hear about someone turning in front of a motorcycle because the car's driver didn't see the bike. Thanks for taking us along for the ride!!
@krisjensen955410 місяців тому
Have to drag my girl through there someday. 1981 KZ 305 CSR was my first vehicle also. Brand new, never changed the oil on it the whole time I owned it. Ran out the bottom faster than it could get dirty. Dealer resealed it twice. I finally sold it and got an XT 500.
@michaelmayrend31310 місяців тому
A friend in his younger years also did long ride open stretch motorcycle trips. I remember his stories because he said he always carried a clean pop bottle worth of gasoline with him as his back up. This was for when the motorcycle vibration brain fuzzies would make him forget to top off his tank every chance he got along the route.

Dave, thank you for sharing this trip! My wife and I went to Alaska last year. After spending a week on the Kenai peninsula, we drove up to Fairbanks and spent a few days on the Chena river. From there we took the same road you came back on, through Paxson, and stayed at the Lake Louise lodge before heading back to Anchorage. As I was watching the video, I kept telling my wife “I remember that spot!” You are so fortunate to be able to spend so much time in Alaska, and thank you again for sharing.

A friend of mine was in the Air Force in 1981 Elmendorf AFB. He set us up with a rental motor home for a week and we traveled this route. It gave me the best pictures. On the gravel we got a flat on the motor home. I think Paxton might have been where we got the tire repaired. Motor home shook so bad on the gravel that the turn signal lever fell off along with one of the cabinet doors. Glad too see it hasn't been paved over. Good times! Thanks for sharing that.
