Yum! I’ve got all the fixings for homemade “chicklin’” and dumplings ready to start tomorrow. My little four year old granddaughter loves to help me cook and it’s her special request. I was just thinking today though that it’s time to do a big pot roast soon. Hope y’all enjoyed it. Stay warm. We’re in Fouke, Arkansas and we hit the high 20s overnight last night - brrrrrr!!!

@@BuckeyeBigfoot That is a GREAT idea! I have the most incredible recipe for a "Red Eye Pot Roast", given to me by a very dear retired Firefighter Friend, Big John. He was "the Chief Cook" in the Firehouse. Talk about good eatin'! And, the incredible aroma, while its cooking, drives everyone mad! Big John passed a few years back; I miss him sooo very much. I didn't just lose a best friend, I also lost my fishing buddy! Wow, we spent many years together catching fish (though I had a lot of trout fishing experience with my Dad, Big John taught me how to catch BIG fish [salmon, striped bass, ling cod, grouper, etc.]). And being female, it wasn't safe for me to fish alone, as Big John would say. Anyway, I would LOVE to contribute a recipe or two (in memory of Big John) for a Sassquad Recipe Book! Count me in. That "Red Eye Pot Roast" will become a favorite of many, I guarantee! Thanks, Nance, for all you do; 2020 has been a VERY difficult year, but hearing your familiar soothing voice narrating great stories has been a blessing to many "Sassquad". You are the best friend we haven't had the pleasure of meeting face to face. Much Love to You and Yours❣Lindsay, Sacramento 😁

Word. OG here, many moons have come and gone since being down with the squad. We snack hard, and play harder to avoid catchin’ the Diabeetus. It’s like a motorcycle gang, except we don’t ride motorcycles together, wear leather, we do bathe for the most part, laugh a bit, and we’re kind. Ehhhh, maybe we’re more like a special forces team that never goes on missions together, hunting down bad guys, and taking them out one at a time.... Maybe we’re just a snack club with a Sasquatch problem. 😆

A Cheetah can run 76 MPH. I know of encounters where they claim they were doing 80! I "saw" something in the woods up near Bluff Creek one day. I say "saw" because it was so quick and fast that I didn't actually lay eyes on it! All I saw was a rooster tail of debris as it shot up the hill and into the brush. Sasquatch never crossed my mind because it was low to the ground. There are encounters where they are seen crawling on their toes and fingers faster than a man can run. Back then I had no idea they can go on all fours. I can't think of any animal in North America that can run as fast as the blur I saw that day. I was looking at a rooster trail of debris and it was already up the hill!

For one, it was barely a light cold and over and done with. The other was an elderly person - and it was very bad. She was hospitalized and intubated. It was touch and go for her for a while. Snackage du jour: Laughing Cow cheese and ice water. Nothing beats cold/clean water. Condolences to the author on the loss of his life's pillar within his family. I'm certain Uncle Pop departed this earth feeling very proud of you. You bring honor to him and his memory. Thank you for sharing your story with us. Nance... always a pleasure. You managed to find good tales to share, and present them very well.

That was a beautiful and well written story. I felt as if I was sitting in that tree stand, witnessing the events unfolding before my eyes.

Aw, another good story from Alabama, he sounds just like me, I haven't had any venison since my brother in law Sonny since he passed away in 93, he made the best venison chili ever or anything related to that it's not the same, he died of cancer he was exposed to agent orange during his time in Vietnam he was only 43 he left my older sister a widow with three school age kids

Yeah no I wasn’t reduced to tears when he told Uncle Pops his freezer would be filled with deer meat when he got home 🥺 Now this is just me but did anyone else feel the connection between him catching the 6 point buck the same day Uncle Pops had the stroke? Not to be weird but there are times I feel significant moments are spiritually related. Great story all around & in soo many ways

The tense stare down reminds me of a a moment during the family get together when the last home made fried apple pie was on the plate and my uncle and a kid was looking at it and neither was going to surrender that pie , mom decided to cut it so both could enjoy it by the way it was no small fried pie either yes a stalemate happened whew
