My mom been a teacher for years. She has spent her life helping others while her dream is to go to Alaska. The Alaskan Railroad is what she talks about doing most. I don't know how I'm going to scrape funds together, but some way I'm going to take her there.

@MsPianoPerformer I am a (mandated) C0vid vacc1ne injured nurse, almost 35 years of nursing, still working part time for now, but filed for retirement last month. It wasn't enough I put my life on the line for DECADES from driving in snowstorms --2 last week alone here in Connecticut - we nurses don't get "snow days- and hurricanes (in North Carolina) I also worked the frontline during C0vid with up to 32 C0vid positive patients at a time) Then they mandated these experimental jabs and was on FMLA twice from my jab injuries, I am now forced to retire. Watching these seem as far as I will ever get to a train vacay like this. Husband and I used to love short train trips. He died a few months before C0vid. I am so happy I found this channel! Former Alaskan tour consultant here. I would like to say that the Alaska railroad has two very different experiences. The route between Anchorage and Fairbanks is a lot of wilderness, canyons, and mountainous regions, due to traveling through the end of the Rocky Mountains. The Southern route has a lot of glaciers, and lakes and rivers that come from glaciers. And at the end of the route going south, you can take a tour out of Seward into Resurrection Bay and see humpbacks, orcas, otters, puffins, sea lions, and all sorts of other wildlife.

this just makes me miss Fairbanks, i was born there and raised for 13 years and always wanted to move back. I actually did a field trip back in elementry school to Denali taking the railroad so this is all just memories to me. Makes me super happy that Fairbanks my home town is finally getting more recognition and not just Anchorage like always

Found this video while looking for woodworking videos, go figure. The video brings back memories of my childhood in Alaska. My family (Mom, Dad, two of three brothers and me) lived at mile marker “206-3/4” in our family log homestead in the mid-60s until 1969. I remember Goose Creek, the Susitna River, Willow, and riding a school bus forever to and from a one room school (K-4) at Talkeetna. We could see Mt. McKinley in the distance from the cabin. I used to watch the train go by the homestead, and we always had moose around the house. Never did see a bear, but they were around. No indoor plumbing or electricity in the cabin either. Also I remember riding the train to and from the homestead. Back then you just flagged the train down if you wanted to board along the route. I think in the Anchorage station there was a model train, you could push a big red button and the train would run on a simple circle track for a minute or so. I also remember the Alaska Marine Highway, and riding on the Wickersham, Matanuska, Tustumena and the Malaspina on several trips to Seattle and back in that era. Also remember the all-gravel Alcan Highway. Great video, thank you for posting it!

Our family visited Alaska last summer. We took the Anchorage to Seward train route to see the glaciers. OMG -- The Outdoor Viewing Platform alone made my whole Alaska vacation worth it. It was a wildlife / nature photographer's dream as I sat outside the whole trip. The super staff also added to my enjoyment by bringing me cup of hot coffee every so often :D Go Goldstar and enjoy every moment. You'll thank me!

I lived in Anchorage Alaska for many years for 15 years n every years 2 trips to Kawai., Hawaii. I only got to 60 locations in Alaska as this state is VE4Y LARGE. I couldn't watch this whole video because it makes me sad as I miss the land. Back in the 80's we only had 1 small movie theater , now I hear they have several. I was young n loved all the outdoor activities especially in winter. Once the temp got down to -40 but it is a dry cold( frostbite is easy to get) I got some on my toes but didn't loose any. I worked in the hospital in Thermal Unit n loved to care for many climbers of mountain McKinley ( now back to Mt Denali) Saw many animals while cross country skiing. ( up close) Going by. Train is the best. I flew around in our private plane alot.. I love your video.

In 1990 for my 27th birthday, my mother and I flew into Anchorage and then jumped on board the train that runs from Anchorage through Denali up to Fairbanks. What was unique of the train at the end of the Alaska Railroad section was two cars for Princess. The dining car sections were on the bottom level the top was the assigned open plexiglass covered roof with minimal visual obstructions. Comfortable seats great food in the dining section and spectacular views. We jumped off the train at Denali and stayed at the lodge in the park and went to the dinner theater to see "Alaskan cabin night" Nearly 32 years ago and he's memories are so vivid to me when I think back

We also got to experience their Christmas train ride for employees and family only in 2019. I took my parents on this train the last week of May 1992. We flew into Fairbanks & stayed 3 days. As you probably know, Fairbanks weather can be iffy in May but each day was sunny & mid-70s temperature. We took the train straight through to Anchorage. Back then, Alaska Railroad was coach seating (no Gold Star Service) & during the summer season, both Princess Cruise Lines & Gray Line Tours each had 2 cars on the end of the train for high end service. I got our tickets through Princess Cruise & that's where we spent our time. Excellent service. Domed car seating until it was time to go downstairs for our included fine dining meals. We had a tour guide giving us info the entire time. Our train was about an hour or so late (no one cared) & the crew ran out of time and we stopped in Wasilla to wait for a new crew to take us the rest of short way into Anchorage. They knew it was going to happen; so they had a fresh crew on the way. We only waited about 20 minutes. This was a trip we enjoyed a lot.

I had a similar experience on the Rocky Mountaineer through Canada. I’d love to take this route thru Alaska as well.

In 1997 after a stay in the Denali Lodge with friends, we headed south from Denali for the eight hours' Alaska Railroad trip to Anchorage. Your video brought back wonderful memories of that journey. Thank you.

So happy to find this video. Brought back memories from 2017, after disembarking near Anchorage from a luxury cruise with Crystal Serenity, we took this train first class all the way to Fairbanks. Twelve hours of magnificent views- - just incredible train ride. The best tasting pot roast was served for dinner--can't forget that. From Fairbarks we took the airplane to our home in Florida. Thanks for this video, appreciate it very much. Take care!

Beautiful, well told, well shot video, Jeb! Your video is so crisp and clear. Are you shooting with a DSLR? Camcorder? Or iPhone? Wondering how you make it look so easy.

I rode much of that route (Fairbanks to Denali and Talkeetna to Anchorage) back in 2006 on a Princess cruise-tour. Watching this really brought back some fond memories. Thanks

Great job & Welcome to Alaska. I have watched a few of these videos on the RR and yours is by far the best. I’ve lived here over 40 years and have never taken the RR, but have driven the road near it many times. After watching your video maybe it is time for a trip on it.
