Welcome onboard one of the World’s Greatest Rail Journeys! This First Class Train across Canada has it all!
Watch this video before booking Via Rail’s “The Canadian” train from Toronto to Vancouver! On our journey through vast forests, over endless prairies, and up breathtaking mountain passes, we’ll cover nearly 3,000 miles over almost 100 hours!
The Canadian should be at the top of your travel bucket list. In this video, we’ll leave Toronto on Wednesday morning at 9:55 and arrive in Vancouver on Sunday morning. Along the way, we’ll travel in a First Class train car with every amenity you can imagine (and some First Class Luxuries to surprise you!).
Onboard the Prestige Class experience, we’ll have our own dedicated Concierge Team to take care of our every need, a HUGE bed with a massively comfortable mattress, and delicious food.
Our room is in the Park Car, right next to the unlimited premium, first class bar complete with snacks and other treats along our journey.
We even had the opportunity to get out and explore the area around Jasper in the Canadian Rocky Mountains, which also marked the start of one of the most visually stunning days we’ve ever experienced from the rails!
You’ll see the sights, the food, and gain insight into what it’s like to travel on this incredible First Class Train: The Canadian.

An American couple was driving through Canada. At one point they became lost but saw a gas station up ahead. As they pulled into the station the wife told the husband to go inside and ask the clerk where they were. He did so, and the clerk replied, “Saskatoon Saskatchewan”. Upon returning to the car the wife asked her husband what he had found out. Her husband replied, “He doesn’t speak English”.

Since you ask, YES, please do consider adding basic cost information to your videos! Even a ballpark figure, if the prices are subject to frequent change, would be appreciated, because it's certainly a time-saver (and a dream-saver, for those of us thinking long-term) to have at least some idea to base realistic plans upon. Knowing at the start that the trip is something you simply can't afford right now still lets you watch with pleasure while you add the trip to a bucket list!

@@user-qe1tv1bu2fdid you see any cell phone towers in the video? It's an issue in rural Canada and especially up north. Everyone loves the unspoiled beauty of the rugged countryside, but WiFi or internet service is going to be hard to come by. That's a long way to lay and burry cables and very sparsely populated. Cost benefit analysis. Satellite link is always possible and very expensive.

My wife and I did this trip from Vancouver to Toronto in September of 2011. Great fall colors. This was back when ViaRail had great weekly specials that came out the same day each week. We were not in prestige class but we had a bedroom at 75% off. We paid $500 each rather than $2000 each. Great dream trip that we had talked about for a few years. This sounds like an amazing trip. The last time I was on a cross country rail trip was in 1954 when I was 6. We were on our way from California all the way to New York City and then on by 4-prop air to Germany. I've loved trains and flying ever since. I was lucky enough to work on the Holland America Princess Denali trains as a Rail Guide last summer. If you haven't ridden that train, you really should add it to your list. My new goal is to ride a train in every US state that has one. I'll be adding this Canadian one to my bucket list as well. Adding the cost of the trip is very helpful so that I'll know how much I need to add into my travel budget.

Interesting and entertaining video. I used to travel the same route or most of the route back in the 60’s. Never stayed in the suite, usually having a bearth, but had the opportunity to visit the rooms and roomettes and every car except the engine with the conductor as my guide. Service in the 60’s was still old school, all meals on board were in the dining car, the bar car (with bartender) at the rear was for 1st and 2nd class and the dome seats were first come first serve. Back in the day passenger trains had priority, with freight moving onto sidings. In the 70’s things changed with a shift to freight being a priority over passenger service. The amenities and service also suffered. Eventually, the Rocky Mountaineer, a ‘luxury’ service was developed and later the Canadian was refurbished to a return to better service you present in your video. Winter trips across the prairies used to suffer aging infrastructure, with steam lines freezing. We’d have to pull over to a siding until they could be thawed out. Costs back then were less than flying, as long as you had a few days to travel.
