The one thing I find so difficult to stomach in all of this - is the self-satisfied, smug, 'you can't touch us', expressions on these men's faces. It says everything about how they see themselves - not an once of humility or grace in any of them. Jurors they may be, servants of the constitution, they are not.

Perfectly said. That lack of "humility and grace", as well as their "you can't touch us" attitudes IS their corruption. It's why they were chosen by the Federalist Society, their big dark money donors, and Mitch McConnell. They needed people who were corruptible enough to do their political biddings and not turn into moderates once they got thrie lifetime appointments - as many so called conservatives had done in the past. I wonder if Gorsuch has ever apologized to Merrick Garland for stealing his seat? What's really dark is most of them will go to Federalist Society conferences as keynote speakers and crow about what their decisions and get applause for it.

No one argued that the President has absolute immunity. The argument is that Presidents have qualified immunity for official Presidential acts. The question is, can the official and unofficial acts be legally separated? Even the State's lawyer concluded that there are core Presidential acts that Congress may not regulate. The State's lawyer called them some euphemism for immunity, but Gorsuch made him admit it is qualified immunity. So everyone agrees that the President has qualified immunity. We just need to decide on the qualifications.

I think it's time the reconstitution of SCOTUS should be on the ballot in November. Another choice could be to expand the SCOTUS to a number equal to the federal circuit courts with a mixed smaller group to hear individual cases.

I think the civil liability test is illuminating here as well. If the person holding the office of the president does something that is within the "outer perimeter" of the responsibilities of the presidency, in that moment they were acting as they president, not a citizen, and the office of the president is immune from civil liability. Apply that same logic to criminal cases. Presumably so long as the person was acting within the "outer perimeter" then they too would be immune, but I struggle to understand exactly which acts could simultaneously be crimes AND within with outer perimeter of duties of someone who is constitutionally tasked with upholding and executing the law.
