It's great hearing your perspective and thoughts on various aspects of the first episode. It provides a lot more context. We thought your explanation of the contrast of Australia and NZ in terms of first nations culture was pretty spot on. We were wondering what time of year you were down there, so thanks for clarifying that. Seemed like it was pretty frigid conditions.

Bloody well said Mike. Your comments on culture are spot on. The commitment to be bi-lingual in their Defence Force is a great example.

Biggest thing that surprised me, was Beck struggling with the black case, then the text says "additional "70kg" of camera gear". Gotta be a better way for production to deal with that.

without the camera gear you wouldn't be watching Alone. Nor would SBS accept the footage from a single GoPro from each contestant. How did you think they had enough batteries etc for a month or more of filming?
@Lana_Warwick
@Lana_Warwick 11 місяців тому
@@steviefordranger198 I'd watch something else. Doubt they carry batteries to last a month. More likely when the boat comes around doing health checks, batteries, sd cards (so editing can start) are swapped out. Still, in these times of light weight tech, not sure the gear they require needs to weigh as much as an adult.

I wonder if part of the reason they give them so much is to make it harder for people to move their camp to a different site

@@steviefordranger198 Yeah, but is carrying 70kg or film equipment to be able to film it really part of an authentic survival situation? I think that's the point Lana is making. The average male is going to be able to carry a massive case easier than the average female.

Awesome mate! A few things that I'd love to hear from you in a follow up. We didn't get much of your first day, but you looked pretty organised with a clear plan. What was your first hour like? What was your thinking process for it? How'd you go on your first night?

Mate some of the contestants were disgraceful, old mate the Kiwi and the teacher. Sure they are great people, but they couldn't even handle more than one night in the bush? Used to do that as a cub scout as a kid out in the bush with a snare to catch rabbits. Young fella who had Covid, no worries, not his fault, but the others? Very very soft indeed. At least go for 3/4 nights.

This show is a joke.!I took another look at Alone Australia. Day 10 and five people remain out of 10. It still says at the beginning that these are trained survival experts. Australians should be ashamed of this show. Haha. Most of the people that tap out are just missing their family. jeeeez! This isn't even close to the time of a two week vacation.😉

@@HEATSEEKER00Pretty horrible, I’m in Canada, been watching Alone since the beginning. I didn’t even know there was an Australian version. This is awful, survival experts my Aunt Fanny but even having admitted that, what the bloody hell? Home in a day? After a nice free site seeing excursion to Tasmania?, because this lot are pathetic. The first tap needs to never be looking at himself in the mirror again if he went for any other reason. I thought the guy who ran screaming home from Alone before the sun set on the first day was bad but at least he had something legitimate to be afraid of, these people aren’t going to get eaten by a really radical wallaby. Maybe its me, I don’t have any issues with my own company but REALLY, it makes me nuts when these contestants start wailing about “missing my family” before the first week is out. Aaargh, what, are you six, whiny for your Mum at your first Summer camp? Queer lady and her useless self, if your life is so perfect, why the devil did you go in the first place? “Queen for a day” has been replaced with “Whine for a day”.

@@HEATSEEKER00 I don’t know if you noticed but there is a new one, Alone UK. Bloody hell, the producers of this travesty must all be from London. I have no idea what they were thinking but who in the name of sense plunks a bunch of absolute ninnies up in the Canadian North West Territories? Fashion designers and Ad Executives and one little boy who lives in London and everything he knows about outdoor survival he got from A BOOK? And then there’s the autistic young man who admits to having NO sense of direction and closed out episode 2 completely lost in the bush. A bush in an area heavily populated with some of the most dangerous and aggressive predators on the planet. One contestant is gone halfway through the first day after planting his axe in his leg. Pffft, what could go wrong? After two episodes I’m torn between laughter and a sneaky wish for one of them to get eaten by a bear, if only for being so lunatic as to be there in the first place.

@shaneyule3484
@shaneyule3484 Рік тому
mmm, I'm not sure that having a percentage of indigenous heritage means that they automatically have a stronger connection to county than you buddy. I think it's how in tune you are with your natural surroundings, especially in a survival situation. Back yourself.
@OutbackMike
@OutbackMike Рік тому
It’s not necessarily related to a percentage of Aboriginal blood. It’s more about the value system you are raised within. From what I have seen the traditional Aboriginal mindset and their connection to Country is much stronger than ours. I’m not being touchy feely about it. For them it’s intertwined with and inseparable from all aspects of their life including spirituality, customs and values. For us it’s more at arms length. I don’t lack confidence in my ability to connect. I’ve just got to know some Elders who I think are more connected than I am.

Ever been hiking in Tassie? I walked 94 km in 6 days through the snow, mud, mud and more mud, flowing streams and got sorta lost. Camped every night in a tent with my -14 bag. From the Walls of Jerusalem it was knee deep snow until we got to Lake Petrarch in the arvo where it was hot enough to have a swim. I can see you last 5 seconds in the Western Arthurs.
