I can’t answer the outrigger question yet sorry. Yeah. It was always so tricky to get them in. The bank was steep and slippery and it was so snaggy.

A pole for balance can certainly be handy. We usually had one hand full holding a tripod so I often used it for balance.

Char-grilled is preferable..pretend you’re at a Japanese restaurant eating a rice bowl topped with grilled eel fillets that have been generously brushed with unagi sauce. If only..

@@missy4663 haha, I would much prefer char grilled on the coals, but in a survival situation you want to utilize as much as the fat and oils, so making a broth a drinking it all down, despite the gross taste, seems more efficient

I think eating in that environment is the No.1 priority as soon as I’ve got a half decent shelter up. As far as cravings, I try to just push it from my mind. (Not often successful though😂)

The way you phrased that would hurt a lot of people over here. It’s problematic and hurtful to classify how ‘Aboriginal’ someone is purely by their appearance. I’m better off not trying to explain it because I do would probably get it wrong. It’s more appropriate for an Aboriginal person to do it. They tend get a lot of hate when they do though which is why they are reticent to engage in hurtful conversations.

@@OutbackMike Well, it's kinda ridiculous. They hate they get is very likely from actual aboriginals. Australians used to be quite good at cutting down tall poppies and the like. An obvious white guy running around talking non-stop about being aboriginal probably earns the ire. My paternal grandmother's family came from Roman occupied Gaullic Burdigala (modern-day Bordeaux) and they emigrated in the 17th century, but if I went around claiming to be descendant of Julius Caesar or something, I'd expect a bit of push back.

@@naponroy it's only ridiculous because you don't understand how it works, and you've formed an opinion with very little knowledge. Like Mike, I won't try to explain it but if you truly want to understand, you'd do some reading or reach out to some Australian Indigenous organisations and ask the question, hopefully more respectfully.

@@seanalexander9531 Nah, I get it. We have the same thing. Someone's great-great grandma was a half-blood indian, but somehow it's their whole identity today. Or those people who claim to be descendent from "the Kings of Scotland" or the like, despite their German Grandma and of 8 great, 16 great-great, 32 great-great grandparents they are more repreentative of their extended neighburhood than anything else. I gues the point is, you can identify as whatever you like, it doesn't mean everyone else is required to applaud your, uh, bravery.

There's a difference between me having a Scottish ancestor that I know little about and am not affected by what happened to them, and having my ancestors' country invaded, the people displaced, murdered, raped, removed from their families as children, and their descendants subjected to marginalisation and prejudice since then. It's called intergenerational trauma - it's very real and has had awful consequences in Australia. Did you listen to the contestant who had a grandparent who was part of the Stolen Generation? And what Mike talked about in recap episode 4? Let's recap - you asked a question that could have been genuine, Mike told you that your words would be very hurtful to Indigenous people in Australia, and without any more information you jumped to a bunch of conclusions and just dismissed generations of trauma. You're not interested in learning - you're just whining about something you know little about.
