Gear Review | I have owned the Alpine Engineering Lynx One Man Tent since 2020. I have camped in it from Miane to Florida, in temps ranging from 36 to 100 degrees. Here I share how its help up, and what you can expect for your approx. $125 investment. - Frank

I’ve been using an Alps Mountaineering Taurus-4 tent for almost 20 years. It’s seen 18” of snow in -14F temps in the Adirondacks, and 90F summers in the sandy pine barrens of southern NJ. Simple, durable, affordable gear.

Hello, WOW glad to hear the tents REALLY last. Its going to be well over 90 in the Adirondacks today. I was going to go camp, but tomorrow is a washout. - Frank

Live hearing nature in the background. I find one person tents to be a bit small. The Besport 2 person tent is only slightly larger, costs about the same and is similar I'm construction. Budget tents have long lives even when abused.

Hello Matt, I will admit a one person is small, and took a night or two to get used to. I am shopping for a three season tent now. I will take a look at that brand, so thank you. - Frank

Matt the tent you mentioned is only $69.99 today! It is 5.5lbs though 🤔 Did you review the tent? If so I missed it! - Frank

@@OneOldManRiding I have not reviewed it. I wanted more time in it, but maybe this fall. I have spent hours in pouring rain it and stayed dry. It did its job. I crumple and stuff my tents like you. I just changed how I put them away. I stopped using the stuff sack and just jam them down in the pannier. They fill it out better without gaps of space.

@@OneOldManRiding I have Besports three person tent as well. It was inexpensive and perfect for outings with kids. I liked it well enough to try the smaller one. Like you, if I get a three to five years out of it, I am satisfied.

Hello Matt, that's a good idea for storing. I am using rackless luggage for the 790, not a rectangle. I may borrow your idea and stuff it in there. - Frank

Good review Frank, always best to run to Wallymart and get real tent stakes, they are cheap and the ground here in the desert is like concrete. I have the same tent as Mr. DOC650. You definitely got your money's worth with the ALPS tent. Thank You.

Good review Frank! I remember you picking that tent up and moving it when we were in SC. It kept you dry and warm also. I just can’t see spending $600 on a tent that may last twice as long as a $89 tent.

Fantastic review! "stuff it in the bag".....that's why they call them stuff sacks I guess. I hiked the AT and always stuffed my hammock, tarp and sleeping bag into the bottom of my backpack. It's the most efficient use of space as it then fills every nook and cranny. When things are in bags there is a lot of unused air space. Plus it's much faster. Really like your channel. :)
@OneOldManRiding

Hello Michael, I am going to try that stuffing next time. I have rackless luggage for my 790, and it's not a standard rectangle for storage. Just shocking the tent in will help is all of the space. - Frank

Start carrying seam grip to use as a glue and seam sealer and tenacious tape. Both are fantastic for emergency repairs. I used a dab of seam grip clamped between waxed paper to fix screen problems. A couple magnets can work for clamping screen

So, the birds sing but have a bit of a "wind" problem? Well, you can't blame them. You should hear me after stopping at that Taco Bell near my campground here. Thanks for the review. I travel more with the wife. She DEMANDS a three-four man tent that takes up half of my top box. :( ;) S

Thanks Frank. Nice review. Even the $400 tent likely requires better stakes and a footprint. I don't know of any other tent in $100 price range that has the high quality level you describe. Inexpensive mesh repair kits are available and work quite well.

For the price and with only some basic regular maintenance it looks just great after all that time using it. Great video Frank. Sometimes it is just enough to spend a reasonable amount of money and it just works. Great tip about investing another 20 dollars.

Hello Frank. Appreciated your review on this tent. Have you had a chance to measure the actual inside length? It's advertised at 90".I'm asking because I just recieved the Paria Bryce 1P tent(85" length) and it is only 81" making it too short for me.-I'm 6'2. Also was wondering if the advertized weight of 4lbs 1 oz is correct w/o footprint? Alot of these tents end up weighing more than what they say on the package. I agree with you on the floor material being very thin. I've had an Alps 4 man tent for 5 yrs and never used a footprint tarp and now little holes are showing themselves. Thanks and have a nice day.
