Her reaction to Amenhotep's head after 7:20 shows just how much she loves her subject. She had a genuine and profound emotional reaction there, looked like she was about to faint she was so blown away by it. I love learning from people like this, their enthusiasm for their subject makes it easier to be enthusiastic alongside them.

I always loved Egyptology as a kid. The architecture, the culture, the religion, it was all so fascinating.

Am I the only one who has replayed the part where she sees the pharaoh's head for the first time? The emotions! Felt like I was there with her. Makes you understand what a big deal that was. Also incredible that there are monuments that take us back thousands of years back still standing today. Simply breathtaking.

When she speaks of the scribe losing his sight, her compassion for how he must have felt to lose his sight...I just felt how sorry she felt for him. So eloquently spoken and loves her subject. Great host. Cheers. 🥂

I hope Professor Joann won an award for this documentary because she is fabulous. I love her human and genuine reactions when she sees things for the first time. And incredible footage of her walking alone in the dessert and in the ruins--- all in black and with her umbrella. Classic.

Truly is bizarre how old Ancient Egypt is. The first pharaoh was further away in time to Julius Caesar than we are to him...mind boggling.

Ancient Egypt was the first ancient civilization I ever learned about. It was a 80's documentary, I love her documentaries about this period since I was a child. She makes me feel like I did when I was younger...

This is a most wonderful and informative documentary. The amount of information given is totally amazing and so,fascinating and vivid that you don’t want it to end !! Prof Fletcher obviously loves her subject - you can tell this by the way she imparts her very special story. She feels and lives her subject passing her thrill of the information she has to pass on to her listeners. No deadpan teacher this but an amazing thrilling imparting of Egypt’s golden age. Thank you so much, I could listen to this Egyptian history forever. No wonder it still fascinates us after 3000 years Pro Fletcher loves her subject and passes this love onto the listener/viewer. What an incredible documentary! Thank you Dr Fletcher. I have learnt so much in your documentaries that I'm sure I'd never have learnt in the class of any other archaeologist. Your videos are such a delight to watch and the method in which you present your subject is so easily absorbed by the viewer. I'd give anything to be one of your students!

I don't know why, but all of this stealing and mishandling of the pharaohs mummies really made me angry. Imagine seeing more undisturbed tombs, not only King Tut's. So much lost.

How much I love Egyptian history ... I can not describe. Our school at the time was embarked on a journey of WORLD HISTORY and even included the SEVEN WONDERS OF THE WORLD .. HANGING GARDEN OF BABYLON WAS ONE OF THEM.. And now back to Amenhotep , Atenaken , Tutankhamon ( sad he died too young as a Pharaoh ) Nefertiti the wife .. and more after Seti .. our world history class .. was only up to here.. Great episode. I love how it ties together so many generations of the pharaohs and the priests ... the political and religious struggles that are seen in the clues left behind.

It still amazes me what they were able to build 3,000-4,000 years ago. Mind blowing.

I think now the Pyramid is not what I cannot imagine but the fact that the empire existed continuously for thousand of years. Maybe that is the reason why they can build great thing like the Pyramid of Giza.

It's astonishing that we have written evidence of the deliberate robbing of the royal tombs by the priesthood during the time leading up to the Third Intermediate Period, let alone the actual physical evidence. This is a superb documentary presenting new discoveries and historical conclusions rather than recycling old stuff. Amenhotep III was the Pharoah at Egypt's undisputable zenith, but that does not make him the greatest Pharoah. (An aside: the term "Pharoah" only came into use for the king about his time). I think that Hatshepsut and Thutmose III set the stage for Amenhotep III's magnificence, and very much added to Egypt's power and wealth. Also, I think the key person in the kingdom at this time was his father-in-law, Yuya, who may also have been his uncle, as well as possibly the father of Ay, who (nefariously) succeeded Tutankhamun. Some wild speculation (Osman) has even suggested that Yuya was the biblical Joseph, but that's contradicted by the fact that his mummy and that of his wife Tjuyu and their daughter Tiye are very well preserved in Egypt to this day. During the reign of Amenhotep III, the cult of the Aten was already significant, and after Amenhotep IV/Akhenaten's accession, Tiye still had an influential position, so I wonder whether Yuya had something to do with the beginnings of the Aten cult and the conflict with the Amun priesthood.

I know she's controversial now, but I always loved Joann's documentaries. She has SO much passion for what she's talking about, and she's gone into more detail in her docs than any other presenter/historian/archeologists I know (and I've watched a LOT on ancient Egypt 😅)

Good video. It's a blessing to have been able to discover the burials, tombs and mummies, pyramids and large statues of Egypt and to be able to decipher their drawings on the walls of chambers, relics and to be able to see these items in the museums.

It's really sad that the tombs of the pharaohs were raided by the priests themselves, so much history lost. At least tutunkhamun's survived

Golden age of Kemnet is highly viewed as one of the thriving points of ancient kemmet. Pharoah Amenemhat lll built great constructions such as the black pyramid at Hawara and temples. His statue is self explanatory and so is the name Kemmet.

I find it funny that when the priests decided to raid all the tombs, they couldn't find King Tutankhamun's tomb. I guess you could say that Tutankhamun and his parents had the last laugh....
