Honestly, the Jimny was the best. It had street tyres and still performed well, and if you spend a bit of money beefing its off-road capabilities, it would smash the other two for a lot less money.

The uphill climb was like a walk in the park for the G-Wagon. As for the Jimmy, the little guy did really well.

I've watched a dozen of these comparisons videos. And I am honestly impressed by how the Jimny keeps up with all these "serious" 4x4s; whilst still using road tyres!

I think the only reason the Jeep failed the last challenge was because you didn't power out like you did with the others. Although, I'm always a huge fan of the Jimny. Crazy how well it did with street tires and no lockers

Let's be honest, nobody with a G-Wagen actually does any of this.

Used to off-road Suzuki LJ50s in the early 90s, they were old then. And they could handle anything you threw in front of them (in a green lane-ing sense). They are the Jimney’s spiritual precursor so I’m not surprised it did so well.

1991 Geo Tracker owner here. Considering the Jimmy had almost touring tires it got her done. And Since I could probably buy two of them for the price of either the Jeep or the Benz, I can have a spare in the garage that I keep clean for going to church on Sundays! I KNOW my Tracker (totally stock except for AT-2 Grabber tires) can go places the Jeeps are too big and fat to maneuver around! Been there, done that, much to the consternation of some Wrangler guys!

My takeaways: - Mat really loves the Jimny..."The Little Engine That Could". - The G63 is a marvel of engineering held back by people who can't afford to take advantage of it's capabilities. - The Jeep comes from the factory best equipped to win all these events and didn't.

I think if these are simple "trail" trucks, then all you need is to add KO2 tires to the Jimny + lunchbox front locker + rear POSI LSD locker + a 2.5" lift. It will be unbeatable. The rear LSD won't compromise ride quality, and the front lunchbox locker won't kick in anyway until the Jimny is in 4WD mode, so no issues on the road. It is a light vehicle. Had enough of everything. Add a little winch with synthetic rope. Very nice rig!

Jimny for the win. Price vs performance it can't be beat. It's cheap to maintain, run and there's a million aftermarket parts if you want to build it into something wild. I've crossed the Simpson Desert twice, Cape York, driven most coastal tracks, and some of the most rugged mountain country in Victoria and NSW. I did all this in a completely stock Jimny with the cheapest street tires I could find. 150,000km later and it's still running like new. Absolutely the best 4x4 I've owned.

I really enjoy carwow. Use them for a lot of reviews. And I should say, I'm really impressed with the Jimmy. What its capable of doing, for so little money, is impressive. Having said those things, however, I should also state that I've owned 3x Jeep Rubicons over the years ('03, '08, and '06). Even the garbage '08 I owned (it's engine was a dog) could have beat that hill. I ran a lot of hills similar, actually, in East Tennessee (steep hill, loose rock)--and that '08 did beat those hills. Also, giving 3 points to each winner--just so you can have a 3-way tie? Come on guys. Overall winners, based on price and capability (IMHO): 1. Jimmy, 2. Jeep, and 3. G-Wagon.

He started the Jeep slowly on the incline. Drive hard into it and it would have no doubt completed the test. Manufactured a result.

My preference would depend on what I have planned for a trip. If I were going to the Kruger park for a week then the G wagon. Traveling across Africa the only choice is the Suzuki.

The Jimmy is the ideal vehicle for UK off-roading. It is small to fit through the lanes, it is cheap when you damage it. And in practice it really performs extremely well.

I love the Jimny. It's just such a working class hero. Being smaller really helps it be really good in more terrains. Cute as a button as well.

Jimny: cheapest, easy to maintain. Jeep: Overall better offroader considering you wont be scared of pushing it unlike the G. most modifiable G: Luxury, raw power, but too expensive for it to be really practical

yea.. but the jeep will leave you stranded due to reliability issues if you're looking at long term..because that seems to be the experience from many jeep owners. The G63 will leave you with an empty wallet, both at the pump and the garage as soon as anything breaks... I reckon a Jimny+ a couple of grand in nice upgrades can get you a great little off-roader. Possibly far more enjoyable than the others, because you'd actually use it.

Brilliant video but please, pretty please do some mods to that Jimny before you try these stunts again. #1 Radial cup protectors. #2 Rock sliders. #3 A 50mm lift kit. #4 Differential breather kit. #5 Either General Grabbers or BF Goodrich 215/75/r15 or better still 235/75/r15 tires and preferably mud terrain tires instead of all terrain tires. Optional: A) Front and B) rear differential protectors as well as C) a transfer case protector. D) Front and E) rear replacement bumpers, as lightweight as possible. F) Snorkel to make sure you get good clean air into the engine from the roof height of the Jimny. G) A throttle controller to give you more control over the stock acceleration including a performance mode that improves offroading performance. H) A performance exhaust system that will give you more power. Now you are ready to "smoke your competition" with mods that will give you a significance performance boost as well as stop your Jimny from suffering serious damage. Without a differential breathing kit you should not go through any depth of water that will reach or cover the diffs or drive system of the Jimny or you will be facing significant repairs and/or mechanical failure in future. If you knock your radial cups, which are the lowest points of the Jimny, out of shape you are facing expensive repairs since it is near impossible to bend the stock radial cups back in shape. The tire upgrades are vital and go together with an improved suspension lift kit. Let's face it, the standard production model of the Jimny is but a mall crawler with attitude while the upgraded Jimny with all the goodies is a rock-crawling mountain goat with a mission. A cautionary note: All these upgrades have significant weight disadvantage that has to be weighed against your long term use for the Jimny. If it is offroading, you don't want to stick between 20Kg to 50Kg on the very front and very back of your Jimny with bumper upgrades which will significantly reduce your permissible 350Kg maximum load capacity on the Jimny. If it is driving in traffic all day, you don't want 235/75/r15 mud terrain tires unless you are a millionaire that can afford full tire replacements in less than a year. Take a gander at the Des Sol website in South Africa for the benefits of the various upgrades I mentioned.
