Nice one Shane, did one of the workouts on Zwift last night , noticed my power was all over the shop? Next time might try unpairing my stages and just use erg mode on my wahoo snap for power. Great tips as usual!

Had major dropouts (up to 30 in a 100 km ride). Checked out your video and it was the" cable versus fan thingy" that was obstructing my rides. Replaced the USB cable, did a 100 k ride this morning without any dropouts. Thanks so much for your advice Shane, you rock !!!

Shane, have watched every one of your videos and tried just about everything to troubleshoot ant dropouts, from wifi channel changes to eliminating bt. My bike is bit far from the comp (IMac) maybe 5 meters, and while usually it works relatively fine thru the air there are periods of intense drop outs (though my head unit still reads data during these periods so it's not a pm issue) so figured it's proximity and tried a 30ft active usb cable. The issue is that the dongle is recognized, but zwift cannot find the pm device? The cable was strong enough to charge my android so should be enough power to have the anself stick work? Any idea what's going on here? Feel like you'd be the guy to solve this!

Cure for me was to get an active cable that allowed the ant+ connector to be placed literally right next to the wahoo unit. Zero connection drops now. When I had the ant+ connector just 3 feet away, it would still occasionally drop. Distance matters.

Any thoughts for those of us who are using 2 x ANT+ dongles to run Zwift and TrainerRoad at the same time and experiencing the occasional dropout? Both ANT+ dongles plugged into a powered (or unpowered?) USB hub on an extension lead, sitting next to the trainer? Or is there likely to be cross-talk / interference from both ANT+ dongles being so close to each other? It's a bit of an oddball setup, but I like the workouts in TrainerRoad, but still want Zwift to look at. No issues using a single ANT+ dongle on its own with Zwift up until now (plugged into PC front USB port). Issue has only started since introducing the second dongle + TrainerRoad.

Shane, this is GOLD! Recently jumped in to the world of Zwift and bought a Tacx Vortex. Have had loads of troubles with drop outs. I think my issue is a combination of unshielded HDMI, WiFi interference and usb port shenanigans. I've changed the wifi channel and moved the ANT dongle on to a powered USB hub, so will see if that fixes it. Also on a Windows PC in the USB port hub settings in Device Manager, there is a power management tab. On that tab is "Allow Windows to turn this device off to save power". In the past ive seen that tick box cause havoc with ordinary network cards, so have unticked it. Fingers crossed!

I really appreciate all of your videos ... thank you. I seem to have the opposite problem of most people : Too much connectivity ... We have a TACX Neo 2 and a Wahoo Kickr. No problems running Zwift one at a time but when we try to ride together on Zwift at the same time the Zwift session on the Kickr goes nuts once I log in to Zwift second on the Neo 2 and start pedaling (my wife started sprinting up Mt. Ventoux which would have been amusing if I wasn't so frustrated with this). The only solution we've found is to move the trainers as far as possible from each other and on different floors of our house (ironically with neither trainer in our pain cave). We've tried every combo of bluetooth or ANT+ pairing ... no joy. Interestingly if we just run the trainers with their respective utility apps we have no problem. Have you had problems in a multi-trainer environment with Zwift messed up by signals from devices to which it is not paired? We have no drop out problems as commonly described. Thanks for any suggestions.
@gplama
@gplama 3 роки тому
Not something I've come across in the Lama Lab with a ton of dual combinations of trainers/bikes/power meters/PC/Mac/AppleTV, etc. The only time things go screwy is when one user pairs to the wrong device. One thing I can suggest on the NEO is to disable speed/cadence within their utility app (I believe the v2 has this option...) that'll reduce the chances of something hijacking/messing things up. That'll leave BLE and ANT FEC from the Neo 2.

No dropouts on Zwift but nightmare with my heart rate monitor. Originally I was using Apple 4k so I had my flux s connected up via bluetooth along with HR mon on the spare all good. I changed a couple of weeks ago after building a pc as I prefer the graphics. Connecting Flux s via Ant now which is fine but my wahoo tickr is nigh on useless. New battery has not solved the issue. It sees it as a generic HR and then drops out, occasionally making an appearance as I'm riding.

Hello Shane, I have two smart trainers at home, a Wahoo Kickr 2018 and a Kickr Core, I have changed the wifi channels, purchased ant+ dongles with active USB extension cables. Unfortunately, I have not been able to make them work on the same room, I even had them 2 meters apart from each other as wahoo suggests. Have you heard about anything like this? I've tried with Zwift and RGT cycling but I always get the same result, the Kickr 2018 becomes really hard to the point that is almost impossible to pedal. I was hoping today's firmware upgrade would do the trick, but unfortunately that was not the case. Thanks.

I've had an interesting one this week zwift on pc, ant+ with extension. Kickr as the trainer and for power. Garmin cadence sensor and hr monitor. Twice this week I've done rides lasting over and hour and each time the hr monitor has frozen then slowly dropped down to 70. It then looses signal completely. When it looses signal the smart control of the kickr seems to drop. Power remains the whole time but it basically turns in to a dumb trainer with power meter. If I pull the transmitter unit off the strap it reads at 70 for a while and the smart control for the trainer comes back on. It then stops and the smart control goes again. Clip it back to the strap and it reads at 70 again for a while then goes again. I've changed the battery tonight to see if that helps but I wonder is sweat shorting it in some way. Might need to get a tickr. Just wonder why it would affect the ant+ connection to the kickr.

Hoping you can provide some insight. I am using Tacx neo 2 trainer for Zwift sessions. My husband just started using a Wahoo Kickr. If he is Zwifting alone there are no issues. If we try to Zwift together the Wahoo locks up every time and the spiral of death occurs. I am Zwifting on an Ipad thru bluetooth. He is using apple TV and connecting thru the companion app. He tried using bluetooth thru his phone and got the same lock up. It normally happens within 20 minutes of Zwifting together.

One for Zwift to have a look into. They should be able to review the log files on both machines to see if anything is changing at that 20min mark. Personally the only time I've encountered this is when someone pairs the wrong controllable trainer by mistake. BLE and ANT+ devices can (and should) exist in a shared environment. One for Zwift Support to shed more light on with your setup though.

@Modulation75
@Modulation75 6 років тому
Because it's not a good advice. You need to check how many Wifi signals travelling are there in your room and use the non-used channels. In android you have a free app: Wifi-analizer that gives you that information. The real "trick" you can do to improve signal quality -but losing speed- it's changing the Wifi protocol form AC to N will give you better signal. I even used Wifi G in houses with a lot of signal problems.

@gearathon
@gearathon 7 років тому
My apologies . Sorry I have contributed with possible misinformation . I should have expressed myself better. I am no tech . I really dont know what happened but it happened about two or three times. And the last time it happened I observed there was a AV message window open. I cant remember the text, I think it was related to updating , doing an update, asking permission to update or asking when to update or something like that.. And so I jumped to conclusion that it had something to do with it. I read online and somwhere someone wrote something in the line of AV being a problem and even recomending shutting it down temporarily while zwifting. For a couple of times I turned it off during zwift sessions. Felt kind of weird. Then I unboxed updates for a while during the sessions. . Lately I have been ticking in the run silent box and choose for how many hours. Dont know what it means though and I dont think that box was even there back then? Could be wrong on that an maybe its all superstition. I just did all I could imagine would have an effect after getting drop outs and getting droppped . After this I have more rarely had dropouts occur and not in a similar way with simultaneous all sensors drop pwr hr cadence like I remember I had then. But to be fair I have also done the other things you mentioned, removing ant agent, put platic bag over antenna, swithing wifi channel. Switched USB port, using active USB cable . And I am even running the computer straight off its own a Lan cable. These things can make me desperate. Thanks again !
@gplama
@gplama 7 років тому
All good. I've seen people say the same thing fixes ANT+ issues (AV scanner). There might be something in the libraries or system resources it uses that gets caught up with some AV, not sure. One interesting tip I picked up from the Vegas event was to lift the ANT+ USB stick up off the ground by a few inches. The theory being it'll give it a few more degrees/radius(?) of opportunity to pick up signal with the antenna. Yet to test/try this myself. Could be why the TACX ANT+ USB dongle is mounted upright on their product.. hmm... all interesting stuff.
@gearathon
@gearathon 7 років тому
Thanks Shane, funny about the angle and tacx dongle. Should be a reason for the design? I havent tried the tacx but I put my Ant antena stuck into a empty duct tape roll to get some angle on it. Not sure if it matters though ? I have been considering to buy a tacx antenna a couple of times . I havent googled it for a while but before buying the active cable I couldnt find any clues online if it was better or not, and some where advocating active cables so I went for that. Would love to see a zwiftaliser drop out file on theese things but it takes a lot of time and effort and money to find answers. Thankfully there is your channel and Dc rainmaker giving us some free info. Keep it up mate! Much appreciated!

You didn't specify the problem though...? No connection at all? Drop outs? What platform (Zwift?). Are you running a HDMI cable anywhere near it? Have you tried Bluetooth?

@@gplama I ride Zwift, I just got back after a 6 month hiatus. New Kickr Snap trainer. I average 7-8 wifi dropouts every 10 minutes. I purchased a new ant+ and cable, still have drop outs, purchased a powered cable, still have dropouts, replaced the router with a new one, still dropouts, took my Apple Watch off wifi which I was using as a heart rate monitor. Im on channel 159 and I went to advanced mode and I put it on channel 140 and no luck. my router is both 2.4 and 5g and it appears to be running on the 5g signal so im not sure if channel 1-3 is compatible. Ill be riding uphill, I count my pace which is always around 80RPM, but the Zwift companion app shows about 64RPM, then if I attempt a hill, I watch and the rpm drops slowly to about 24RPM before working its way back up to about 64RPM even though im pedaling at the same pace. I checked for firmware updates today, I calibrated at least 6 times, I quit the ride after 45 minutes. I asked Zwift to take the Snap back and Ill but the wheel on trainer, I just dont know what to do at this point. My old router and TACX vortex were older but actually worked better, never had a dropout, rode to level 40, got the Tron bike etc, its just discouraging . And Yes IM running it through bluetooth which ive cycled on and off several times along with the router and Kickr. sucks being me I guess. : /

@@willmoran105 Wifi dropouts, or ANT+ drops? .... but then you say you're running it over Bluetooth? I'm a little lost in the setup.

@@gplama hey Shane, can you elaborate a little further on your comment above about HDMI running anywhere near it? Where I set my trainer up is near my TV and Amplifier etc. I have a HDMI cable running from the Amp to the TV. Are you suggesting HDMI somehow interferes with ANT+?

Simon Jan 20, 10:36 AM EST facebook.com/SimonBrierleyTri/videos/2075403092732860/ Please see the recent video i have recorded to show the issues that i am having with the calibration and length of time to see any sort of "warming up" of the kickr snap to start to actually read realistic power readings. Even after an "Advanced spins down" on wahoo fitness app and then a spin down on wahoo fitness app. And then actually a spin down on TrainerRoad 2x . The sessions started off by reading only around 150-170 watts and then finally after the 3rd 10min rep at 95% of FTP on TrainerRoad workout (which i did an ftp beginning of the week and it resulted in 197watts FTP, which is totally wrong as i say in the video i am an ex pro ironman athlete of an FTP of 335 last August 2017 Please respond to my query of wrong calibration of the wahoo kickr snap that is only 3weeks old and recording very low and or taking 20-30min to actually warm up. Any help advice appreciated

Wahoo Support is going to be your best course of action here. And if you're not happy with it/them, then I'd return the unit and look for alternatives.
