Because this scene carries a very deep meaning. We have all made mistakes in life that we want to fix. At the same time, we are scared that if we don’t fix them, it will hinder on someone else who may be rooting for you or counting on you. That piece, apparently, is worth $750k (if the replies are to be believed, 0.1% of the original painting's worth). I'm not joking, Mona Lisa with a goatee is high art to a point that the original is worth a 2 bedroom house. Want me to turn this from an art lecture into something funny? That means the painting at 8:04 would actually be artistically justifiable if, at least in the world of the film, it wasn't the original.
