@@MrEnterthehole i couldn't care less about their security updates. Direct x is the only thing worth considering. Microsofts security patches have a tendency to break more than they fix and create even more security issues. I'd be happy if they stop updating and let it be. People will be surprised how miniscule of an effect it will be. Windows 7 users are stilll running happily with asuperior OS without issues or security concerns. If you're prone to needing the security fixes because of lack of knowledge, no security fix will ever be enough. Start browsing thoughtfully, block ads and you never have an issue.

No, Microsoft's "Upgrade to Windows 10" prompts originally had something like "Yes" and "No" options, with "No" and clicking the X on the prompt still counting as "Yes, just not immediately". After a couple months of backlash they eventually changed it to "Yes" and "Later" while disabling the X (no more lying, hooray?). Then a year or so later they finally changed it back to "Yes" and "No" and made "No" actually mean No! (most people had been forcibly upgraded by this point) It was a massive shit storm and a complete and utter dick move from Microsoft, like holy shit was that bad!

I've been using Win 11 since the public developer release was a thing. I have it on a newish Intel gaming PC (3090/I9-10850) that I also use for some work tasks. It's been mostly painless apart from early UI bugs (that made fonts invisible in certain settings panels) and the more recent constant updates that take 5-15 min to install with a couple reboots. My biggest gripes at this point are that some of the system/settings menus are missing functionality. For example: "never combine icons on the taskbar" is not an option at the moment and I used to have my taskbar vertical on my screen, not at the bottom. Connecting to my work's vpn requires a couple more clicks than it used to. I haven't had any issues with games or programming or office apps. But nothing is noticeably "better" (except for the Ubuntu subsystem - the shell is missing some of the bugs it had in Win10). But unless you really like rounded edges on browser windows I wouldn't recommend this to people like me, especially if it costs more $.

Yes. It should've been 'common knowledge' since Windows 95!
@conroypawgmail
@conroypawgmail 2 роки тому
@@adamc.2987- I agree, but it was a very different world back then. For those who were familiar with PCs and Microsoft - yes, we held off on adopting Windows 95. Personally, I stuck with DOS 6.22 and Windows 3.11 until Windows 98 SE for my main PC. I did give Windows 95c a run on my secondary PC because I had to know it to support our customers. There was a huge rush to adopt Windows 95, and with good reason. Apple Macintosh users were beating PC users over the head with the fact that the GUI for System 7.5 "Mozart" was far superior to anything Microsoft or IBM had to offer. Prior to Windows 95, folks were struggling with the clunkiness of Windows 3.1 and whatever flavor of DOS command lines, configuration system files, and memory management. EVERYTHING had to run in under 640K of memory, no matter how much RAM you had in your PC. Windows 95 changed that and more. People were rushing to put Windows 95 on whatever PC they had, even if it could barely run it. Microsoft was also shady with the system requirements. They said it would run on a 386 DX 16 MHz, 4 MB RAM, and 30 MB Hard Drive Space. It would barely craw on those requirements, and people still didn't blame Microsoft and either upgraded or bought and new PC. It seemed that Microsoft thought they could do the same thing again with Windows Vista. I don't think it wasn't until Windows Millennium Edition did it become common knowledge to the general public, that early adoption of Microsoft Operating Systems was a perilous undertaking. I decided to skip that one, because Windows 98 SE was working fine, and Windows 2000 was right around the corner. Windows ME looked to be just a cash grab to me, with nothing real substantial to offer. Windows 11 has that same feel.

This is technically supposed to be what nearly everyone is seeing right now. While Windows 11 is technically out now, it is supposed to really only be for new machines that are optimized for it. The "upgrade rollout" isn't slated to start in earnest until 2022, presumably after all of the growing pains like the one in this video are ironed out. I feel like this wasn't properly addressed in the video. To my knowledge, people can only upgrade to Windows 11 now by going out of their way to the website and manually downloading the OS. Though I am sure and expect there to be at least a few edge cases where people have the prompt to upgrade now in their Windows 10 update menu. These problems shouldn't exist, still. I do not want to come off as trying to justify them. But this seems more less like a story on something Windows 11 is doing wrong, and more of an explicit example of why Windows 11 isn't available for everyone yet and what _shouldn't_ be a problem by the time the upgrade offer does rollout to the masses.

I've had plenty of AMD specific issues on Arch Linux aswell, but AMD support on Linux is increasing day by day even if there are bugs currently. Intel even has their own Linux distribution that they recommend for highest workstation performance, in fact, AMD themselves recommended customers of Threadripper CPUs to use Intel's 'Clear Linux' distribution for maximum performance.

I mean I just want to point out that historically speaking, AMD has never had a close working relationship with Microsoft. I've heard friends who have worked for them say that when both Intel and AMD were invited out to MS offices to help work out kinks, Intel would constantly send engineers out, but AMD more often than not sent nobody. I mean let's be honest here, AMD has a reputation of dragging their feet with compatibility support and updates. It's sad to see conspiracy theories of Microsoft and Intel working together to some how hurt AMD, especially given AMD's known past.

I have the exact CPU as the AIDA64 bench, the R7 2700X, I installed Windows 11 via the assistant along with the latest BIOS update provided by ASUS for my B450 board, one major problem was corrected for me that was the Windows 10 update was always breaking the system after the update to a point of boot loopings where my solution was returning back to a previous restore point, than waiting a few weeks and installing the updates again. But the slowdowns were real, I had massive audio hiccups even on UKposts, VLC, Genshin Impact. Also, for some reason, Windows 11 didn't like the DOCP memory profile of my certified RAM for the board, I had to increase the CL from 15 to 16 to be able to reach the lockscreen to login into Windows 11, but on Windows 10 it was all normal. I am still able to go back to Windows 10, but I don't think I will, despite the problems, I had back experiences with downgrades and don't wanna reinstall the OS clean.

I tried using Windows 11. Man, it really fells like an unfinished product that got pushed out too fast. So many small UI bugs (like context menu misalignment right clicking various items on the taskbar, for example) have been the same since the leaked Windows 11 build months ago. Even one of the flagship features they announced (Android apps on Windows) never made it to this release build. I feel like between various corporate moves (like you said, potential sway from companies like Intel), and general in-cohesiveness between teams/developers/desginers in Microsoft, there are some pretty major fundamental issues at the company.
