No one's talking about how brilliant this is. It comments on how we judge people's worth based off of how well they adhere to social conventions instead of how good of people they are. And also is spot on with how women with internalized misogyny (the mother) seek the approval of men and how we as humans and women especially feel more validated when sticking to social conventions because of how much stigma there is when we defy them, and how we have been socially conditioned to value the opinion of a man above that of a woman's and so we subconsciously seek and feel validated by the approval of men.
