To clean the yellow stitching use a toothbrush and washing up liquid in the same manner you would use a toothbrush with toothpaste. Once you have worked up a good soapy layer leave it for about 10 minutes then rinse off under a running tap.

I'm getting so many ideas for changing color on a pair of old boots! Your channel is amazing!!! I would love to see what a pair of Corcoran 1500 are all about. I've been wearing them for a decade as a fashion boot, because they're truly amazing once broken in, but sure are made for real war action and it would be nice to see what's inside of them. After all, those are the real deal when you compare them to these Docs.

I would dye before the leather conditioner. Allows the dye to get further into the leather.
@pepleatherlab3872
@pepleatherlab3872 2 роки тому
I recommend the same. Conditioners contain oils will will resist dye from absorbing properly and can make the color hazy and splotchy. It makes more passes necessary for color fast. I typically apply two coats of Fiebings directly after the fine sanding so the color goes deeper and richer. After it dries, then I begin conditioning to regain something similar to the original luster.

This video is so fantastic. I have a pair of docs with really soft leather so they're a little more high maintenance. I got them when I was in middle school and didn't know how to take care of them. I found my grandpa's old boot cleaning kit and learned how and now I clean them routinely. It always makes me sad to see people with worn-down leather shoes knowing that it's not that difficult to take care of them, alot of people just don't know how.

I keep hearing you shouldn't use something like coconut oil to condition leather but adding something like tocopherol (vitamin e) to virgin coconut oil will apparently stabilize it for 5+ years. Since it doesn't go rancid would this work? I can't find anyone who has tested it long term. Just an idea for a future video! 😊

I'd love to see you review some higher end "fashion" boot brands like AS98, Eric Michaels, or Taos, or even some high end cowboy boots. I have had some Taos Crave shoes for 7 years and put thousands of miles in them and only recently had to replace the insoles. They're still great! They may have lost their faded conditioning on the toes and heel but they still make for a great shoe. Some AS98 boots come with steel in the heel of the boot and I'm curious what that does functionally.

Cool, although unless you're using DM's to kick rocks around or sandpaper or similar it's unlikely the tops will ever get that bad before the soles literally wear through to your socks so this process isn't generally gonna be necessary. However, are any of these products any good at preventing the cracking that happens where the toe box meets the first set of eyelets? Kinda where the crease is where the boots bend as you walk. That's a real problem. The DM's 'wonder balsam' is hopeless and so is standard boot polish, maybe some of the products shown here might work better.
