Yeah, but we don’t see that until after Zuko leaves the fire nation in book 3, and all we’ve seen in this Netflix season is before we ever met Azula, from a much younger actress than the voice actress, who was about 30 when recording the show, and did a very cartoonish, over the top, unrealistic voice for Azula, which no ordinary people have in real life. And I loved all the Azula scenes we got here, her being jealous at Zuko, despite her being better than him, but being stuck at the palace, her helping Zhao the whole time, and her lightning bending for the first time, which is what Ozai wanted, to push her into training day and night, until she could do that, and then she was ready to be given a mission.

Exactly and the thing is, Azula was introduced as she was and I loved her from the get go, now seeing her motivations just gives her even more depth in a way, don't get me wrong original Azula had plenty of depth but seeing that even her, the perfect prodigy, had to work her but off to be taken seriously gives a whole new perspective to the character that is possibly my favourite character in the original series since I was a child

Afterwards it depends on their personality and thoughts, or sympathy, although some only like them for being sexy or cool, whether they are men or women. An example would be Dr. Frieza from Batman, he is only a villain because he only wants to revive his wife, no matter the cost and that is the quickest way. Azula, for example, is sexy, cool, and you sympathize with her since she was raised by a guy who wanted the best heir, so he made them grow up in a hyper-competitive environment with her brother, plus their mother only paid attention to Zuko. Or you can just be Mrs. Dimitrescu and be an elegant and mega sexy 3 meter tall MILF.

She only went physco at the end of book 3, and all the scenes here happened during book 1, where we never saw her before, and the actress is much younger than the OG voice actress, and it’s cartoon vs live action.

The actress has a baby face, but I think she conveys Azula's manipulativeness quite well. I thought at first that she was miscast, but her innocent look makes her more dangerous because it catches people off guard. The seeds of insanity are planted and I hope to see her be more unhinged in future seasons.

The impatience when trying to learn firebending and hurting Katara is such an important moment for Aang, that they shouldn’t have left it out. And of course, the agni kai theme never played once.

But live action Ozai shows admiration for that, so it seems she still is trying to make her father proud.

Azula has been crazy since she was a kid yes but they are right is saying animated Azula would not have dared to shoot lightning at Ozai. We hardly saw much interaction between them one on one, even in the flashbacks. In the end, when we actually see Azula upset with Ozai for not taking her with him during the arrival of the comet, she throws a temper tantrum like a child. When Ozai raises his voice at her, she quiets herself. Netflix Azula looked like she would fight Ozai If she had to. You can see the desperation within her. She'd do anything to prove herself worthy, even standing up against her own father with action, not just words.

The adaptation was simply more humanized, like Ozai for instance actually shows a twisted way of caring for both his children by making them stronger. Ozai on the show didn’t care whatsoever and was a simply evil conqueror without any source of redeemable qualities nor any sense as to way he was like that. Anime portrays hyperboles and exaggerations, an adaptation needs to follow the blueprint but bring more dimension, connectivity and a bit of realism. Yes she only became crazy around the end, but all through out the series, in every scene she's in, she has that commanding presence that will make you either feel fearful or submissive. This actress didnt show any of that.

On contrary, she started slipping because everything went her way. That is when her superiority complex started kicking in. She became more bossy and harsh towards her friends. Thus drove them away to the point they betrayed her. That is when she truly went crazy and started making mistakes.

We did get a glimpse at it, maybe they thought that now that she's being "unleashed and let loose" she may reach her full potential through blue flames?

The original did have an empathetic side just later on in the show now she’s just acting like zuko and it gets rid of the fun character interaction they had together and it’s also what made the finale fight between them so good

They're more defiant to Ozai, who in the animated series didn't have any serious backlash, and was able to manipulate them flawlessly. Here, both of them fight back against him. It's possible they either give her a redemption arc or make her take over as the main villain halfway through the series, but at the same time it does give Ozai moments to showcase his own personality. I did notice that Ozai was proud more than angry at Azula when she suggested he unleash her to let her hunt down Zuko, and even when she used lightning.

That's ridiculous. The span of Book 1 is at best a few months, enough to change a person sure but far from enough to completely change her personality without enduring some super extreme experience. In the animated series we see that she's the same way even as a child. In fact, it's the reason why she eventually became unhinged in book 3; her mother thinking of her as a monster which haunted her after her only two "friends" betrayed her. Besides, Azula was confident, arrogant, intelligent, sharp, calculating etc. A born ruler without a hint of hesitation or uncertainty. She is not unhinged until part 2 of Book 3. Zuko was branded with fire and banished from the fire nation, sent on an impossible mission. Azula was the golden child, a prodigy and Ozai's favourite. She needed to prove nothing and already had his full approval, has been since they were children. I believe Zuko said that Ozai had told him that he was lucky to be born, whereas Azula was born lucky; a clear display of favoritism. Anyways, you don't banish someone, send them on an impossible mission and brand them with a permanent scar in their face if you had any intentions or hopes of having him return as a worthy heir. Only when Azula lied so that he had the 'glory' of not only slaying the Avatar, but also helping Azula conquer Ba Sing Sei, did he force Ozai to acknowledge him. There's absolutely no reason why Azula should feel jealous or inferior to Zuko. The real Azula would not become so emotional, it goes completely against her animated character, not even close. She has been looking down on Zuko since they were children, even emotionally manipulating him with ease. A psychopathic or sociopathic Azula would probably look at him as a toy to play with when she's bored. Azula is way too narcissistic to care in the slightest about Zuko, and we see this in Book 3 when she helped bring him back to the fire nation as the crown prince. Everything is more or less under her control, that's the impression that she gives until she becomes unstable in B3P2, anything less is a complete disgrace to her character.

Especially when in the animation we have seen that her narcissistic and arrogant personality has been like this from when they were still children, and this is relevant because it is directly related to her becoming unhinged in Part 2 of Book 3. I agree with the bad writing part but I thought their approach to her character made some sense. I mean they are rushing some scenes and so I thought for their adaptation they would probably show different aspects of her while growing up and isn't portrayed as strongly as the og Azula was in the beginning since they are changing quite a number of things.
