Yeah, but i am wandering about having proper end caps, having it one piece long from the start, and having the crane from the start, that would reduce costs total... And wandering if Linus would be open to build his own bunker that is built a bit more, like 3x this one, having "secret tunnels" connections between them, and having secret exit shaft's and actually having it armored and shielded from radiation and acid/radioactive rain.

I have a similar but smaller bunker, 8'x27' 10,000 gallon tank buried about 1999. I've spent several tornado and hurricane warning nights and days there. Once hit by lightning while inside it was a loud bang but I was safe not touching any metal. I can't wait to see this finished as mine so far is just temporary shelter from storms. My best advice from experience is constantly maintain ventilation and low humidity. Mold ruins wood quickly and rust never sleeps.

Omg that's amazing, definitely utilize the under floor space, storage, you can hold a ton of water under there. Just get some type of water containment system, or make some type of system to fit under the floor. You Can also get rain water to run down in the system.

This is a GREAT idea, but the execution is very difficult to get it right. You don't want any dead spots where water gets trapped or stagnant. Bacteria will become an issue, and even worse is a mould outbreak. Especially if they seep into the floorboards/ceiling, since Black Mould loves those materials. Thanks Zack for being open and looking at comments and listening to feedback. We're here to help. I think "Jerry" should just keep this simple. This is NOT a bomb shelter or doomsday cabin. This is a pretty chill man-cave, or a spare bedroom for guests, and kids. Staying true to this fact will mean his overall build will be quicker, cheaper, and more practical.

I think he made a mistake permanently affixing the floor structure this early on. Sure you have tons of storage under there, but it isn't going to be much use if it's hard to put large things under there. For one, he's going to need probably several thousand gallons of water storage, both for clean and dirty water (maybe even a third for drinking water). He also needs to find a place for all of the batteries. It would probably be more beneficial to have them outside the living quarters (ie not under the floor) since they will give off a fair bit of heat. Maybe it will work out and it won't make it crazy hot in there... He also needs to figure out what to do with all of the wiring, waste removal, and air circulation. It would have been a lot easier to go ahead and bury all of the conduit prior to full coverage. Those solar panels (or in all actuality mains power from the grid) need to get in there somehow and have a place to mount in the case of the solar panels. Also, waste water is going to be a huge issue for them. Where is it going to go? The will need a lift pump of some sort, and unless they have a septic system, they will need to plumb that into the city sewer, which they probably won't be a huge fan of without significant permitting. They also need to work out ventilation and cooling for in the bunker. Heating is easy. It will always be heated as long as it is in use. People, batteries, and electricity use generate a lot of heat. Having a way to cool it is going to be important. There are some air "powered" geothermal options that may be of some use. However those will require a lot of underground piping which would have been a lot easier to do prior to filling the hole. Also, Where is the exhaust/ventilation system going to be. 2 box fans laying over the hole isn't a a long term solution. I only bring it up because that probably should have been addressed while the pipe was exposed. Probably would have been good to make redundancies for these systems, as in a situation where you need to use the bunker failure of life support isn't an option.

5:06 I never understood this. Atlas bunkers also shows storing water under the floor. For water storage in a bunker: I propose the installation of a substantial underground tank, seamlessly integrated with the bunker. To ensure a continuous water flow and prevent stagnation, connect the tank to the city's water supply. From there, channel the water to the main house, creating a significant, dedicated water source within the city water system. In case of an emergency, the city water supply to the tank can be shut off, providing a reliable reservoir of clean, fresh water. The daily water use in the house will naturally keep the water circulating, eliminating concerns about stagnation.
@BobfromHolland
@BobfromHolland 4 місяці тому
I was thinking something like this as well. Though the cost of installing such a pipe is actually hilariously expensive (we just had our main pipes replaced). It would be really ‘nice’ system to have. But I think a large underfloor reservoir that you just have pump water in and out of every few months or so is probably a better option, with a stabilizer and secondary filter you can keep water down there for quite a long time

You should have buried earth tubes around the shelter. Then the air intake flows all around the shelter before entering the shelter, raising or lowering the air temp to your in ground 60*. Humid air would condense on the walls and flow downhill into a sump to be filtered and added to your water supply (or pumped outside if contaminated).

Yeah, not only is geothermal missing, but also a proper Swiss ventilation system. It's unclear if there's backup electrical and plumbing from the residential house. He didn't even build a stair case, which is bonkers to me. I can only imagine he's going to install a propane stove or something obscenely dangerous. Seems like no professionals were consulted during this.

@@fidel-3470 As he mentions in the video, his wife is in a wheel chair, there's going to be an elevator in that big shaft. Presumably there will be a ladder or something as backup.

He doesn’t care about making the thing actually work - this is a “for show” project solely intended to generate UKposts revenue not serve as a longer-term shelter. It would work as a storm shelter in case of a tornado or something.

Idea to heat air on the way in: Use a loooooong coiled tube buried deep in the ground. Not sure how long it would need to be, but the idea is to allow the air enough time to absorb warmth FROM the ground during the winter and release warmth INTO the ground during the summer. So you are using geothermal heating and cooling.

I work in IT and you ALWAYS put your electrical/network/wiring up above in case of flooding. If you think it's never going to get flooded that's what we thought too. Our server room got flooded by a burst water pipe and by the time it was shut off all the electricals were jacked. It took us almost a solid month of very long work hours to get everything fixed while we were running on generators with cords running everywhere.

If you have a pool, find a way of utilizing a filtration system and pull water from the pool. Then you can stock freeze dried meals without having to worry about additional water use. Unless there is a nuckear apocalypse, the pool water with a filtration should return you an unlimited water source.

Solar water heating using the evacuated tubes? Heat from the sun, and a solar powered pump to move water through it whenever the sun is up and heating up the liquid in the tubes. put in a reservoir (tank) under the floor big enough to not cool down too quickly overnight. Might not be perfect but should be able to improve the situation. Insulate under the reservoir to keep the heat moving up vs sinking down underneath

Are you sure about the 90" tv? This is a very light controlled environment, and any damage / wear on the TV would not be viable to replace. An ultra short throw led projector, with a spare under the floor, sounds easier to maintain for extended durable use.

A regular king size heated blanket on full power pulls 90w from the outlet so you may want to test one see if they heat up enough but would use less than half as much power and no water involved

Not sure if I missed anything but where are all the sewage waste will go, I dont see any sewage pipes. I dont see any backup water tanks either, unless you will be using the water bottles in storage under the floor, but they will finish at some point 🤔 What will happen if you get for example a continuous rainy apocalypse? If the ground area become flooded for one reason or another "You can never be sure" because the soil might get too saturated with water and then you will be locked in. I presume that you will make the ground hatches water tight, and in that case you might not be able to open them due to pressure difference during a flooding and even if you do, all the water will get in and flood the whole bunker in no time. Did you figure out a soultion for this issue? I would have the exit hatch at least 2 meters above the ground level, just in case so you can peak out without the zombies eating your face or to make sure you have the chance to see whats going on outside without any water getting in from the exit shaft.
