The roots of racism in this country are deep. The psychology of it has lessened but it never fully went away. The legacy of slavery and Jim Crowe means we started the race behind with respect to the resources of our communities, the way the criminal justice system was set up, the lack of representation in corporate America. All those things didn’t just go away they built up over 400 years, they weren’t going to go away just in 50 years, lets just say my lifetime. We can expect every time we took two step forward there was going to be some push back because there are forces in our society that don't want to give up status and privilege. They don't want a level playing field. By the way that is not just true for African Americans, there are a lot of folks who don't want women to have opportunity because suddenly if women are competing on a level playing field, it may turn out, as Michelle likes to remind me that women are at least as smart if not smarter than me. And can do the same job. So we always knew there was going to be some push back. The key is to be able to sustain our spirits, our hope, and our focus, and we vote and we get a win like the voting rights act or the civil rights act and we consolidate that power and then we go at it all over again to go after the next injustice. Sometimes it is exhausting and sometimes it doesn't feel fair, but the idea that you would just stop and give up is something that would be a betrayal to our ancestors, it would be a betrayal to all the folks, black and white and latino and asian who fought to allow us to sit here. None of the three of us could imagine doing what we have done and what we continue to do 50 years ago. It was not in the cards.

We are all brothers and sisters regardless of race, religion, background, financial status, or anything else physically, or monetary... All of the anger on both sides must stop and we need to become the great nation that we once were! I pray for those who didn't grow up feeling or looking at others as equals because they were our neighbors, teachers, preachers, friends, and those we accepted based on how they conducted themselves on an individual basis. I am sending love to all my fellow Americans and hopefully this can resume and we can go back to that time even if it was just a short time, that time when people were judged on an individual basis and the actions of an individual didn't dictate how we judged a race, religion, or anything else for that matter and how we looked at the rest of the world. We have so much to be grateful for and let's all do our best to treat ourselves, because that's where it starts. I know all of us myself included, can do so much better. So before we spend another day or even another moment harnessing any hate or resentment towards somebody, let's remember that there is evil out there and it is our job to keep our end of the road clean, never judge others based on the decisions and/or actions of others of their race,religion, or Creed.
