In this video I head out wild camping in the UK (Peak District) with just the bare bones when it comes to backpacking gear. For me anyway. It was nice to get back to a more minimalist camping style that was much more simplistic. However...there was one bit of gear that I regret not taking with me. Still a great trip and another couple of Ethels ticked off along the way.
I have an MSR Tindheim 2 Tent plus a Gopro Hero 11 & Insta360 action camera bundle up for grabs over on www.messner.co.uk/ Good luck to everyone who enters the competition 🤞🏻

Hi Paul...really enjoy your videos and so pleased if you don't mind me saying, to see you so much more relaxed than at a previous time...I turned 65 this week and can remember sneaking out of a boarding school dormitory at 14 to camp secretly in the woods at night for a rebellious few hours haha....Thank you for taking the time to be informative...interesting...and good humoured too...a genuine antidote to unremitting gloom on the news...Thank you again Paul....Liverpool Kev

I used a poncho to do the old man of Coniston when it was July torrential rain. Loads of people in top end waterproof jackets went past soaked to the bone. 1 even asked if we were dry and we were bone dry underneath! A small stove for a brew definitely is needed! Nice and peaceful camp!

You Sir, are mad. Of the hundreds of nights I've slept outside, I've left my brew kit at home exactly 0 times. I plain refuse to be alive for the day without a coffee to start... I knew that's why you'd regret it before I watched. Fair play for doing it though.
@stevejones7017
@stevejones7017 9 місяців тому
I also can not start the day without a strong coffee. However if I'm going bare minimalist without a stove, I just make cold, black instant coffee, in a small cup. The instant coffee takes a few minutes to fully dissolve in cold water but it's good enough to get my early morning caffeine fix ☕😅

I went stove less on my most recent wild camp in the Peak District. I didn't miss it at all. I think the one and only thing I may have missed was a coffee in the morning. I wonder if you may not have missed it as much had you taken something more desirable like a big flapjack or BLT sandwich or something like that for breakfast. I reckon mentally you may still have been thinking lightweight and long distance, hence things like crackers. I tend to just take the kind of food I would eat if I wasn't thinking about weight or being outdoors. I tend to take a meal deal sandwich, drinks, crisps etc and combine with other tasty satisfying snacks I know I'd eat if I wasn't on the hill. I love a flapjack and an egg or BLT butty in the morning. Eating dry crackers in the morning I'd be missing the stove too. Great video as usual. I love the Terra Nova Starlites but they are way out of my price range unfortunately.

I really enjoyed the simplicity of your kit. I am still paring back my gear a bit at a time as I become more confident with my skills and leave my fears behind. Lol…that being said, I’m carrying the Katadyn pocket filter after having two Sawyer and Be Free filters fail. The bombproof design weighs just under 2lbs but with everything else stripped down, my base weight is still under 12 lbs.

Summer is fine long days but that does not last long but is their light that is good enough to read comfortably most lights for camping I do not find good enough and headlamps I don't find suitable. Reading is the only thing I can think of to do while long nights of camping occur but then one needs to sit upright and keep warm. You can only sleep so long... any advice no one seems to cover this ....
