Robert E. Grant is sharing what makes beautiful mind: any moment free from fear is an opportunity to taste immortality and new possibilities.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

Top speech. It really does takes seconds to change your mind/life. And if you really do move with purpose you can pretty much achieve anything. And if you fail you fail, learn, get up and go do. Fear? What's that? I remember months ago when we were in lockdown, sick, losing loved ones, losing incomes, losing businesses and houses...and now I have to be scared of life throwing anything else at me?🤣 I promised myself if I get through that, I'll never take anything for granted, work harder and smarter never to be in any sh!tty position again.

I live this way and I have overcome things that most humans could not survive, and over a span of 15 years, I have had 4 separate Doctors tell me so. Gratefulness as well as graciousness are life savers. I didn't realize it but I'm a person who will not give up nor give in because it makes no sense for me to do so. My sister once called me a "scrapper" but that's not the case. It's more of a moving forward. I love the quote from the Patsy Cline story (Sweet Dreams) "Somebody's gotta be happy, it might as well be me..." That gave me a strange sort of courage because it reminded me that happiness is a God given right and so that also includes me. So all of the abuses that I had suffered needed and answer and it was not to quit, but to thrive. The credit goes to the creator who's love showers all humans if they would just look up...and be grateful.

Strange that there are so few responses to this excellent talk. Fear is indeed one of the most crippling emotions there is, and overcoming fear the most valuable asset you can develop. Some fear has a function and its wise to distinguish between justified and unjustified fear. But most fear the latter.. I would love to have seen a transcription of the poem he recites in the end.

There’s a stoic practice of confronting your fears directly that has helped me be able to access this kind of message. Wishing it away, trying to overcome it, wanting to be fearless all worked against me but writing down my biggest fears and looking at the practical things I could do to prevent or overcome the worst outcomes gave me my life back. Had I not done this then the sudden death of my SO last year would have destroyed me.

The title is misleading; there’s nothing about beautiful minds in here, or even how to stop fearing. His entire first 6 minutes is a fascinating story all about his fear - and how there were no bad effects from his fear! There are a few good quotes and quotable moments, but this is not a very cohesive or organized talk. Nevertheless, if you listen well, you can pull some gems out of the pile.

I firmly believe fear doesn’t exist, our weaknesses give life to it and make it stronger by not believing in ourselves.

Beautiful talk and very important for seniors. We do not have to be afraid even of death, for that is bound to come, let us welcome it with a smile.

Fear, and it's sibling, hope keep us mercilessly chained to the past or the future, and prevent us from living in the present.

I think you've got that wrong. You can hope to do something that you will get it done, no matter the amount of fear it gives, you will get it DONE!! It can be "sibling's rivalry", but cannot agree for anything less.

Very inspiring speech, thank you 🙏. When I listen to such people I understand the holy Quran more than when listening to the explanation of the Moslem scholars. Because when God sent Adam and ave down to earth , he told them , “ those who follow my guidance, should have no fear or sadness “. This is what we neeed on earth to live happy,: no fear about the future and no regret or remorse about the past, by being thankful and living now.

"Man's immortality is not living forever. Every moment free from fear, makes man immortal." Alexander the Great (That's because, when you break yourself from fear, your thoughts go on forever). In life, we don't get what we deserve all the time. We get what we expect. Two ways to NOT feel afraid: 1. "It's impossible to be fearful and grateful at the same time." 2. Be intentional with our decisions/choices.

Geart speech. I just wrote down that quote from Alexander The Great quickly after you said that. Now it's on one of my room's walls. I'll read it every day from today to learn the ability to face my fears. Thank you.

I feel the need to add something. Getting rid of toxic people in your life will also contribute to eliminating fear. Those people are deadly.
