1. be original. 2. renounce teaching, embrace learning. 3. get to the eye level of students, understand chapter from student perspective. 4. help students make mistakes. 5. reinvent the wheel.

The way to become a better teacher is to always be a student. You always should be learning something new, so it will be easy for you to put yourself in your student’s shoes. A new language, read music, play an instrument, learn to knit, or paint, etc.

Brilliant! Outstanding! Thank you sir, for that eyeopener. Thoroughly enjoyed your talk! You have put it so simply and so clearly. As a teacher trainer at university, this is just what I try to teach my trainees of English. Teaching is not equal to learning. One of the first questions we ask is, 'So you taught the lesson, but did they learn???' Moreover, we need a facilitator in class, not a lecturer.

I fully agree with you. You are very clear with the message if you can explain in simple terms then you teach well. So many skills have to be applied with great commitment in a lesson and this is only possible with a deep understanding of subject matter.

YES, that was my question for years, "WHY AM I LEARNIGN THIS?" In every class that I took in college, teachers would walk in, do some maths on board, walk out and we were supposed to write them down on papers, but never told why I needed to learn this thing. I hate traditional teaching method in classroom, it never taught me anything. Honestly, duing my entire undergrad, I learnt almost 95% things from internet and youtube alone, my professors were very unhelpful in making me learn things. And, also I hate "teachers" who were never supposed to be teachers. I know countless people, who became a teacher after their "PhD" only because they were struggling to get a job after they graduated, they were never meant to teach.

Not in school anymore, even my boss (in corporate world) is also telling me don't reinvent the wheel. When he don't understand anything, it is easy for him to say that. And then when you worked hard and finally reinvented the wheel, he will say your work is not appreciated, many others have done it before.
