Mr Ruhl was my genetics teacher when I was in high school. I generally hated science before I took that class. But I chose to take it because I knew I would need it for college and I'm so glad I did. I learned so much in that class and ever since then genetics has fascinated me. I remember doing the labs with my lab partner Mary. I remember joking around with Mr Ruhl and my classmates. About a year and a half later when I was in college I had to take a genetics class. after the first lecture I went up to the professor and told him that I had taken genetics and that Mr Ruhl was my teacher. he looked at me and he said well then you will recognize every single one of the labs that we do. The professor was not a very good one so it is only because of Mr Ruhl that I passed my college genetics class. And it is because of him that the people that sat around me and were friends with me passed that class. Because of how he taught that class I was able to tell those that I studied with what the professor was trying to teach to us. And it comes full circle. My niece who is about 7 years old told me earlier this year that when she grows up she wants to be a geneticist. I had recently discovered a children's book about Gregor Mendel so I purchased it for her for her birthday. If you know anything about Mr Ruhl you may know that in the past he has dressed up as Gregor Mendel. He is an amazing teacher and I am always grateful that I chose to take his genetics class. And by the way, I did write to him and tell him that I very much appreciated having him as a teacher when I was in high school.

Thank you for this inspirational "lecture", as teachers we usually tend to become a little selfish just because WE are trying to survive, but in the process we "forget" that the students/kids in front of us are ALSO TRYING TO SURVIVE. In order for both parties to survive, we HAVE TO WORK TOGETHER by ACKNOWLEDGING each others' needs. Unfortunately teachers fall into a big hole of issues dealing with discipline, but we need to start doing things DIFFERENTLY in order to draw our students' attention in a more positive, creative and exciting way. Our students are humans just like teachers and teachers are just as human as their students, that's why we need to approach our students in a way that we as teachers would like to be approached. Our students should have more confidence and boldness to interact and communicate with us. YES! KIDS REMEMBER US, THEIR TEACHER - This alone is a phrase that we should put up as motivation to ourselves, the fact that THEY will REMEMBER THEIR TEACHERS! WOW! We should climb into THEIR world and become more like them (in a certain kind of way...lol) to be able to understand them better so that they realise that WE, THE TEACHERS, are ACKNOWLEDGING THEM and considering their needs in such a way that we want them to ENJOY LEARNING THROUGH US, THEIR TEACHERS, who should also remember the most important component of our "job", to LOVE OUR STUDENTS SO MUCH THAT THEY WILL NOT BE ABLE TO "HATE " US, BUT LOVE US BACK - All this because of our CREATIVITY in making their learning environment HUMANLY PLEASUREABLE.

This is exactly why I liked being in uni much more than being in high school. We can sit down and have discussions with our professors about complex medical problems, and we share our interests with our teachers. I've even had several teachers notice my enthusiasm (despite me being very low-key most of the time) and run through the clinic halls (animal hospital) going "I HAVE A CASE FOR YOU!" this year. It makes learning more fun.

What makes a good teacher great is personality. My FAVORITE teacher EVER was my 6th grade social studies teacher. He was funny, liked jokes but knew when to tone it down. He was nice, practically NEVER got mad, he was relatable with his ramblings, he even ran a recycling team because he saw all the global warming stuff and wanted to do something! His grades were fair, he explains the criteria CLEARLY, and we had a grand total of 0 PROJECTS! He was fun to talk to! That's not to mention how I love history! He knew all the misbehavior tactics but never used it against us, if anything he used it in a joking manner. "Hey, I see you back there, back of the classroom, get up here!", "I know how you do things, playing games on your computer, I see you switching tabs!" With the tab remark, you could see the fearful expression waft over the "trouble-makers" faces. He was just like the coolest dude.

That is why when I get bogged down trying to decipher the technical jargon of a "scholarly" paper, I step away to watch an interesting UKposts video on the topic, or I just go sit at the piano & play a nice relaxing but emotionally filled piano piece. This guy is a teacher's teacher. The authentic and solid reflective practice that underpins this man's conviction for learning and student efficacy exceeds the fact that most non-educator audiences would find him less of the "showman" and "entertainer-type" that we have all grown accustomed to hearing in these formats. While I do like a funny or provocative speaker who can capture the audiences attention, more times than not, I find most of the educational speakers today are sought after and revered at large speaking engagements more for their ability to elicit excitement, than for their deep understanding of the teaching/learning process. I will take this guy's realness any day of the week as his message is clear, simple, and full of care and any teacher that has achieved this level of teaching will recognize it in his speech and demeanor and examples, and any teacher aspiring to be like this would be wise to listen.

One idea that was similar to the article that I read called "The Banking Concept of Education" is that both talked about the importance of communication, relationships, collaboration, and caring of the students. In the video, Lafayette discusses the many ways in which he allows his students to have a choice in how they wish to learn based on their needs. The article does the same when it sheds light on the fact that the teacher no longer teaches the students but rather people teach other since we are social beings.

Working with students ranging from regular to special needs with ammunition of 6 C 's makes my day fruitful and enjoyable. Thank you so for your inspiring talk. As a current student the caring part is very important. I grew up in a rough environment that led to me feeling uncared about and so when my teacher showed genuine care for me and what I did it made me feel so much better and so important

A masterpiece. If I still had school-age children, I would surely find a way to move so they could be in your class! Question: are there similar great teachers out there? Is there a network, an association? This level of teaching genius is desperately needed now in all subjects, in our world.

Things that I've realised while watching this video is that opportunities are flexible, we had it in many ways.. We were often accused ourselves about our failures, incapacities, and ignorance about the opportunities around us but not seen because of lack of focus and attention. We are more powerful than what we expected, we are like knights in shining armor, a man who behaves in a very brave way, The firefighter who rescue students bravely to help them develop their full potential in many ways as we can. In a classroom with diverse personalities, our incredible important role to play is to provide learners an access across the board to a base one sets of standard literacy expectations about what they need to participate in contemporary society. Thanks sir👏
