Errr, the Silver Seraph always used a 5.4l BMW engine, and all royces have used BMW engines since. But yes, both makes moved to bigger engines.

No, only Bentley. RR was just a brand BMW bought, they opened a new factory. Vw brought back the 6.75l RR engine which they then owned

I think they missed a key bit of context in that part of this segment. It starts with VW> buying Bentley for ~£400m, and BMW> buying Rolls Royce for ~£40m, and then Jeremy saying VW paid £400m and it's full of BMW switch gear. This doesn't make sense to us younger folks because Bentley and RR are separate companies, and they only said that BMW bought RR, so why would the Bentleys that VW had bought have BMW switch gear? I think it's because a while ago RR bought Bentley, so they were basically the same company, just aimed at slightly different buyers. So, when he says that BMW bought RR, that means they also got Bentley, meaning the Bentleys that VW paid so much for did indeed have many BMW-made internal switches. This connection wasn't made clear just based on the clips shown, and it's my best guess as to what Jeremy meant by what he said. If I got something wrong, or if Jeremy just misspoke or something, then feel free to let me know.

That's the plate belonging to Rolls-Royce at the time (What we'd call a "factory" or manufacturer's plate in the U.S.). It's on all sorts of RR/B for years. Take a look at factory brochures and photos.

For 470 pounds VW brought the company including buildings, machinery, the Bentley name etc. But I believe Vickers owned the RR name and that is what BMW brought, the name for 40 million.

Cost, as now part of VW they could no longer use the BMW engine and there wasn't anything else available. Even so there were a lot of alterations required under the bonnet to get the old engine to fit. It also added 600 Lbs to the weight and they had a nasty habit of blowing head gaskets, now a £5,000 job !
