Best Bolt-On Carbon Fiber Chassis for your Redcat Ascent DSM Off Road vs Ascent Fusion

The new Redcat Ascent Fusion brings a new chassis option! There is now the factory carbon fiber chassis option. BUT - is it better than the DSM Off-Road chassis that is already available?? I put them side-by-side to see for myself!
Yes - there are certainly other carbon fiber chassis on the market. However, those frequently are not bolt-on chassis. They will require you to make custom links, shock mounts, etc. I am comparing these two, as they bolt directly on - using all the stock components.

Flip the shocks upside down then you make the weight of the shock body unsprung and lower were the weight is. Also it will help keep the shocks from leaking

With the original ascent you can actually flip the rear shock towers around backwards and mount them in the forward hole where the support goes. Then you pinch it with two bolts and washers one where the next support goes and one in the shock Tower hole. It makes it sit level and lower and where the last hole goes on the stock location is where the new holes start. It would be a cool mod for your viewers too. Some of them are probably be nervous about drilling into their carbon fiber or lack tools and might like a mod that can be done without modifying.

Thanks my man. I have same situation. I started building a DSM /HTech Ascent before the RTR Deluxe showed up. 😂 Still happy with my purchase though I would have probably bought the Ready to compete version instead. Just because I have so many projects to complete already.

great video! i experimented with my new Fusion and actually mounted the shocks to the frame way forward. Insane articulation but less useful clearance. Oh, not to mention axle movement 😅 Broke a link end (obviously) and went to the Rock Pirates mounts as intended which have worked well! Great purchase as my first 1/10 tbh, excellent electronics for a steal i think. Doubt i will make the frame swap but if i do, that’s the one.

thanks troy for this comparison. interesting. the dsm chassis, does it not allow a soa? wonder if it would also allow to flip the shocks. all that extra transmission parts, it adds sprung weight though; if motor just attached directly to the trans instead of having that extra driveshaft. weight difference?

I do believe you can modify the truck for SOA and flipping the shocks. A divorced trans is pretty common when folks want to move the motor as far forward as possible.

Any idea if the rock pirates shock tower be used? Or rhe DSM bed for the stock chassis? Either one give you more lean on the shock position?

Yes! The Fusion chassis is the same dimensions as the original chassis to ensure those parts will bolt on.

I have the standard ascent. Added fusion se, brass portals up front, diff cover, gen8 extended stub shafts all four corners, longer hexs on them and some wheels and tires I already had. Around $500 in the whole thing. I don't think the fusion will do any better. Will find out soon because my buddy just got the ascent fusion.

I agree 100% - I there really isn't anything on the Fusion that you haven't already done - except for the carbon fiber chassis - and you would be better off with the DSM Off-road version.

Just buying the DSM chassis put you at 399 but the original ascent and then he still need a ESC and motor and beatbox so it cost way more than the new fusion ascent

Yes - I added the cost up in my video yesterday. I have as much in upgrades onnthe standard Ascent...as the new one costs!

The only way to find out is to take them out with the same wheels and tires on both Crawlers and start the competition on the crawler course !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
