At 1:02 that was such amazing skill and precision!! I love how he that only holds the man so he doesn't give him a choice in where they're going to travel! Which was clearly directly backwards for that guy I started to think, "okay so it's not going to be necessarily brute strength throughout this video. It's going to be crazy skill" That clip was immediately followed up with a man doing a single arm DDT and forcing a man to the mat face first

I'm still always amazed at how a small, 5'9" rikishi, weighing 250 lbs. can beat a dude 6'2", that tops the scales at 412! Nagoya basho is on the 12th day today, for anyone wishing to watch live! This video really is excellent in showing so many kimirites (the moves used to win) and so many rikishi (some of the most revered wrestlers of their time). To edit this many matches and to wade through all the 'pre-match' rituals truly was a labor of love!. This has got to be best video I've seen ever! Gotta go find part 1, I somehow missed (and I'm a subscriber)!! Huge thank you's, hugs and Snoopy dances! You made a woman in Seattle very very happy! Great job! 😘👏💞💐💕🌺

IMO, judoka and wrestlers fighting at 90+ kg and 100+ kg would dominate Sumo. But I understand Sumo is more than a sport, it's also a culture thing.
@listrahtes
@listrahtes 3 роки тому
forget it by a mile. The smaller guys have mastered judo on a level that they would demolish near every judoka and have a lower and upper body strenght that rivals the strongest SHW wrestlers by being very fast with exceptional equilibrium. The open hand "slaps" can ko you especially as they also throw elbow strikes. Rikishi are exceptional tough. In the world of grappling you would find no one rivaling them in Sumo and many of them could overtake MA like Judo if they wanted.
@PaulAllen8.30
@PaulAllen8.30 3 роки тому
There's no way in hell a judoka can handle sumo. Sumo starts with a charge and the wrestlers throw each other from the belt and not by the kimono like judokas do. Also the rules of sumo would make it hard for the judoka because some wrestlers will not just go for the belt but will rather fight with tsuppari (pushing and thrusting)
@listrahtes
@listrahtes 3 роки тому
@@PaulAllen8.30 Yep people underestimate the power of these open palm strikes. Hakuho has KOd several opponents with his ellbow charge and Kotojuki f.e, has a tsuppari that is difficult to counter if you are not prepared. Its basically stand up punching with focus on grappling skills as they end the fight. The infight capability of rikishi is I would say without comparison to other sports. Their shifting and rebalancing is very impressive if you take in their weight. Even the small ones weigh 120kg.
@PaulAllen8.30
@PaulAllen8.30 3 роки тому
@@listrahtes I remember Miyogiryu getting KOd by Hakuho's elbow blast and needing several assistants to leave the dohyo without falling over, he was out COLD! I also remember Asashoryu literally throwing an elbow strike against Kotooshu, it wasn't even a forearm blast like the one hakuho uses, it was a UFC style elbow strike at the tachi-ai with 150 kg behind it and moving at Olympic sprinter's speed. Sumo is no joke, even the small rikishi weigh almost 100 kg. Enho is the smallest in the top division and he weighs 96 kg, which is not small by any means in the normal world, but in Sumo he looks like a little kid😂. Most people who say " this [insert random athlete] would dominate sumo" have either never watched Sumo or they don't know it enough.

the dirt and salt make the floor a bit slippery. Since you lose if you touch the ground or is pushed outside of the area, you need strong legs. Also you can grab the leg and use your leg to throw. Grego roman you can't use the leg or grab it if I am not mistaken.
