She is a great woman. She was a nurse at a detox facility I have been to unfortunately more than once. 95 days sober!

Thank you, that’s an incredible story of breaking intergenerational family scapegoating dynamics and intergenerational family dysfunction. Adult children of alcoholics or dysfunctional families or 12 step program need more promoting as they help reduce intergenerational child abuse.

She should write a book herself! It's tough but she seems to be doing fine now. For sure heartbreaking.

She isn't ready. She would protect herself so much it wouldn't ring true with a consequence of being boring. For example, her motivation for buying all of the books at her local Barnes and Noble. It was to protect herself.

Just watched the movie on Netflix , and what an emotional film Indeed.. sometimes we have to have that push from whatever way and hopefully it all works out and in this it sure did .. the quote ' there is light at the end of the tunnel" is so true but at the time if some one says that it doesn't feel that way.. god bless . 🙏

What does she mean by “it is accurate from a child’s point of view”?... Either the events actually happened or didnt happen - its either true or untrue. So if the events did indeed happen, then it’s true - The only subjective thing might be “WHY” something happened, like JD might say its because of the drugs and Beverly might say its because of the stress - But the actual event cant be true only from a child’s perspective.

If she was high most of the time or in a bad mental state than she wouldn't remember or realize what she was doing at the time. Her son probably is telling the truth but toxic parents won't see it the way their victim does. It's probably a hard pill for her to swallow.

I interpreted her as saying that he was accurately telling his story, his experience, emotions, pain, suffering, etc. And as a result this was what helped her realize her need to overcome this things in her own life, her own demons, if you will.

Listened to the audiobook today , highly recommended , it’s not too long, only about 6.5 hours. He really sheds light on this rarely discussed yet highly pathological culture in this country. But it’s also inspiring! Amazing to see his Mom in person, she sounds a little bit manipulative for sure, but also like she’s made some improvements in her life. I sure hope she has. I would like to hear her side of the story of when she tried to crash the car with her and her son in it.

It would be from an ex-addicts point of view though. Just like she was kinda dogging her own son a bit for being a child’s point of view.

I have SO much respect for JD. He overcame his mother's appalling behavior. What is this woman's problem? What is the problem with her? She should have already known to grow up. I have SO little appreciation for this woman. She ALREADY hurt his feelings/childhood. I have immediate family members who have struggled, but didn't do HEROIN or OPIOIDS! She is trying to rationalize her bad behavior. She doesn't think she was that bad a mother? What the hell does she mean? Her hindsight is blurred.

It's the situation here, I'm never going to say anything she did or does is okay, but to understand what people go trough you have to at least see it. Middletown how most of butler county's section 8 housing, that brings idle hands to the community, we have 2 major employers cliffs formally AK steel, and the hospital. We have had constant problems with other towns bussing in homeless. It's middletown because it's between Cincinnati and Dayton so drug runners stop here to flood middletowns downtrodden. She shouldn't have done what she did but I don't think she was in her right mind. Some people are bad people and some people are made bad people I can't tell what one she was.

I feel angry on behalf of JD's mother - she needs to do some atoning by being of service to him. SHE should not have done drugs. I came from my own set of disadvantaged circumstances - when I was 19 I was managing local political campaigns, when I was 21 I was leading staff for statewide political campaigns. I have drank alcohol in the past when I was of legal drinking age and stopped when I realized I was acting irresponsibly, even when it was tempting to keep drinking. I DID NOT have children (and still do not have children because I do child planning). It is INTENSELY frustrating to see her conduct negatively effect JD. While I hope that JD forgives her, I believe that SHE needs to do the work to atone for her bad decisions!

She was a failure as a mother. J.D. and his sister were lucky to of at least had a grandmother that cared about them. His mother may of been salutorian of her graduating class but whatever smarts she had were not enough to counter her being such a loser as a human being. I'm happy for her children that grew up to be successful adults.

Yeah in hindsight you should have been a mother to your child, that’s true. He’s doing well in life and US politics without your input at all though, so maybe it was for the best that you kept your train wreck of a life to yourself.
