Hi all, this is my take about the mostly forgotten (at least in the west) crusade of Teutonic Order against Russian principalities on the backdrop of larger Mongol invasion.

It must of been extremely difficult to travel in a vast wilderness of forests and swamps with only horse transport.I often wonder how they had any logistics at all.I would say they lived off the land mostly.

Would be interesting to know indeed how the supply was done. Its just i haven't found anyone who has covered this topic. But based on the length of some sieges for example they definitely had some level supply organized.

On Russian side no, but in the West it mostly is. And the video itself is mainly discussing the events of the wider context, as battle on the ice is a culmination of those then you would have to stop on that as well.

Most people never heard of the Chinese Crusade against the Muslims or the ongoing India Hindu 350 year war against Muslim occupation, but do demonize British colonialism of India which eventually drove Muslims out of India...which is a good thing. Many in the west just don't know history.

Hi again. Current description of events is in accordance with "official Russian history" narrative ( I learned it in my school time in early 80th)... still... not so long ago, somewhere I find some hypothesis,, than in chronicles famous " Ice battle" was just a not really important, local encounter, where just couple of Livonia knights was lost in battle. Taking in mind, than: A: all Karamzin's history is more literature, than history science B: role of Alexader Nevsky is seriously reevaluated ...there are more questions then answers.... By the way - in accordance with current "Ice Battle" narrative, there has to be plenty of steel in the lake of Peipus..... but somehow no-one can find it.... as well as there is no material evidence of famous battle on Kulikovo field.

Why would there have to be steel in the lake Peipus? Battle was fought when the lake was frozen and considering the value of metals at the time the battle field would have been picked clean long before it melted. As for the importance of the battle or the numbers involved then yes this has been argued back and forth for a long time. However, what we do know is that the crusaders aim was conquest and the battle ended that policy. The real "problem" with Nevsky is that his character was heavily symbolised by later rulers of Russia for their own purposes. Thats where the "Russian official history" part comes in and they do tend to portray Nevsky as a perfect patriot at times.

@@Tell.Me.Something Because, again - in accordance with "official Russia's and USSR history", ice was broken under armor weight of retreating Livonian knights, who was drowned in large numbers.... In recent years I'm looking really sceptic on narratives created in Russian empire and USSR times.....

@@kasparsm7964 The ice breaking is completely made up. It appeared on the Eisenstein movie in 1938 and as the movie was so popular then it became the "truth". The movie is well made from the perspective of just how to make a good movie. However, it was also made as a pure propaganda movie in the context of political situation of 1938. In reality there is no mention of ice breaking and thats why there isnt any steel in the lake and thats why you dont see it in this video either. However, this doesnt mean that the battle didnt happen. It did, that much is certain.

@@Tell.Me.Something I suppose it is visa versa - Eizenstein put in his movie that times "approved-official" narrative. Take in mind, than movie "Alexander Nevskij'" was madei in 1937-38 as a soviet propoganda film, during the heat of "Big Terror", where nothing could appear on screen without governmental consideration. As I said - version about ice braking as one of major reasons of "devastating" loses from knights side was in all history books as a "historical fact" during all USSR period. How it is shown in Rusia's current "history version" - I don't know. Battle definitely happened there. Questionable is how really big and how really important this battle was.
