@@lexiconcapacitor586 Tariffs only apply to import products. You cannot put tariffs on export products. And even what you're saying goes against Trump's goal of the US becoming a strong exporting country again. If Trump makes US exports even more expensive, foreign countries would be less likely to buy it. Mexico is a poor country so if US products become expensive, they wouldn't even have the money to buy it, making US companies lose overall sales instead. US companies probably rather set up factories within Mexico instead so that their products would become "made in Mexico" and avoid that pesky export tariff. All Trump did on tariffs were on the imports of steel and aluminum, nothing on export products. Although that did make Mexico put import tariffs on US products, so I guess that counts as "making Mexicans pay more", although that money is going to Mexico, not back to US companies.

almost all the presidents took good faith on pardon power...it took donald trump in office to show how badly we need to restrict that power. a lot of people are asking for a law that impeached presidents cannot pardon anyone, and presidents during the lame duck session cannot pardon anyone.

Pardons are supposed to be used to help rectify injustice and start the healing process. They have to be broad and far reaching, because of the situations they may, correctly, be used in. For example- Andrew Jackson pardoned all the Confederate soldiers who fought in the civil war, making a step in repairing a bad rift in our nation. Clinton pardoned Patty Hearst- a person who committed a number of crimes after being tortured into indoctrination with an extremist group. Obama pardoned a huge number of low level, nonviolent drug offenders in an attempt to push his criminal reform agenda. So yeah, they are an important presidential power that give the ability to right really broad wrongs. But they are also often used as a tool for corruption. It may be time to put limiters on what pardons can be used for.

Because you can do good with this power! There is a lot of wrong that you could do right. That is if you don't let yourself be tempted to use it for your own gain. 🙄 E.g. Carter pardoned over 200,000 Vietnam War draft evaders. 👍 Obama pardoned many people with (minor) drug charges, behaving well in prison. Trump is not the only one abusing this power. Even Clinton used it for his own agenda in the end. But Trump nearly solely used it for his personal or political allies and his own gain and maybe even gave away pardons for money... 🤔 Fun fact: With 237 individuals Trump pardoned way less people than his predecessor Obama (1,927) and about as much or less than other modern presidents. (Bush: 200, Clinton: 459, Bush Sr.: 77, Reagan: 406, Carter: 566 (+200,000 draft dodgers), Ford: 409, Nixon: 926, Johnson: 1,187)
