Love listening to Bob Meyers. Reason 1) he’s an attorney and he’s not an arrogant know it all. His position is one in which your brainpower is depended upon to put together a group of players that can get along, play in a system, keep within the salary cap, compete against other squads, pick the right coach and develop the perfect overall synergy, and yet, he’s not an arrogant know it all. Listen to the interview, he talked about Matt and Stephen the whole time and just showered them with compliments while still being truthful when providing answers. He stays forever humble while shining the spotlight on everyone else, and yet he always remains the smartest guy in the room. And somehow, while juggling each of those elements, he keeps it real. He doesn’t provide canned political answers. He’s bashing kids imitating Steph while calling Steph the greatest player ever. There is no fat on his answers. They do not meander, they are straight forward and modern thinking. I’m sure someday the game will pass him by, time is undefeated, but for right now, no one “gets it” better than Bob Myers’s. And that’s not just the X’s and O’s, it’s the 5000 ft right down to sea level. His energy and passion is unrivaled amongst GMs. If cats aren’t listening, they should.

As a Wizards fan, who hasn't seen my team win anything and the franchise last won in the 1970s, it is striking how divergent the Warriors and Wizards have gone over the last decade. Joe Lacob took over the Warriors in 2010. Ted Leonsis became majority owner of Wizards in 2010. Both franchises in mediocrity since the 1970s. Lacob gets Jerry West and Bob Meyers in there. Ted keeps Ernie Grunfeld. That right there is the difference from going from a franchise that is viewed as a place no one wants to go to vs. transforming a franchise..
